Rockhampton Hospital is a major 305-bed regional referral hospital serving as the central hub for specialist healthcare across Central Queensland. It supports surrounding hospitals and rural facilities, with patients frequently transferred to Rockhampton for advanced investigation and specialist treatment. The hospital recently established integrated cancer care services in a new facility equipped with state‑of‑the‑art medical technology.
In addition to providing a broad range of specialist services—including emergency medicine, general medicine, cardiology, renal medicine, intensive care, surgery, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, psychiatry, rehabilitation and palliative care—our hospital is also a significant centre for medical education and workforce development.
About the role
* Provide high‑level confidential secretarial and administrative support to the Clinical Director and departmental staff, ensuring the smooth day‑to‑day operation of the unit.
* Coordinate and manage key administrative functions, including diary and appointment management, meeting preparation and minutes, correspondence, rosters, timesheets, leave requests and locum invoice processing.
* Act as the primary point of contact for the department, maintaining effective communication with staff, consumers and multidisciplinary teams while delivering professional and customer‑focused service.
* Utilise strong organisational, communication and problem‑solving skills to manage competing priorities, work autonomously, meet deadlines and contribute to continuous service improvements.
* Maintain accurate records, databases and reports, ensure data integrity across Queensland Health systems and comply with relevant policies, procedures, workplace standards and legislative requirements.
About you
* Demonstrated experience in providing high‑level clerical, secretarial and administrative support, with advanced skills in word processing, spreadsheets and office administration.
* Ability to quickly learn and effectively utilise hospital information systems, including S4HANA, HBCIS and other healthcare‑specific software applications.
* Strong organisational, problem‑solving and time‑management skills, with the ability to work independently, prioritise competing demands and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to liaise professionally and confidentially with staff, patients, the public and external stakeholders while delivering a customer‑focused service.
* Experience coordinating meetings and preparing agendas, minutes and correspondence, along with the ability to research information, maintain accurate records and apply knowledge of Medical Officer employment conditions and awards.
What we offer
* Total remuneration value of up to $100,585 p.a. comprised of:
o An hourly rate between $39.98 – $44.46 p.h.
o 12.75% employer superannuation contribution
o 17.5% leave loading
