Overview
Each volunteer works on the wards with the children reading stories, playing games, helping with craft activities and finding ways to get involved with our radio service, all the while providing a means for the child to forget about being in hospital. The Radio Lollipop studio and on-ward broadcasts involve volunteers presenting programs with contributions from the children. Children can hear the radio on the wards via the television, share in the fun, make song requests, tell stories and enter competitions. Children can respond instantly by using the telephone next to their beds and hear their voices over the radio. In satellites Hospitals there are playrooms where volunteers and children can play, and children can hear the radio broadcast from the PMH Hospital; children from satellite stations can also get involved by ringing for requests and entering competitions. Radio Lollipop exists to help sick children through laughter and play; volunteers do not provide medical advice or attention and should not interfere with hospital staff.
