About our team
Immigration Group is responsible for administering Australia's Permanent and Temporary Migration Programs, people smuggling policy and implementation, and the Refugee and Humanitarian Program and Settlement Programs. The Group delivers status resolution in detention and the community, and manages the Department's client facing services and information services. It also provides policy advice on national impacts of migration, citizenship, people mobility, and delivers citizenship, social cohesion and multicultural programs. Our ideal candidate
You must already be an EL1 in the Australian Public Service employed in an ongoing role to apply for this position. Our ideal candidate will be a team player who enjoys working in a dynamic and evolving environment. You must possess strong written and verbal communication skills and have the ability to work under pressure whilst remaining calm in stressful situations. You must be able to positively contribute in a team environment, displaying integrity and high ethical standards. You must possess good judgement and pay careful attention to detail in order to make lawful decisions confidently, while undertaking analysis and drawing accurate conclusions based on evidence. You must also work collaboratively with others to deliver efficient and accurate workplace outcomes. You must be competent with Microsoft Office Suite and have the ability to quickly learn departmental IT systems, legislation and policy.

Duties and responsibilities
You must already be an EL1 in the Australian Public Service employed in an ongoing role to apply for this position. You will transfer at the EL1 from your current Department to the Department of Home Affairs, Immigration Group. You will typically work in one of the following roles:
Service Delivery
– operate under broad direction in support of Australia's migration, humanitarian and citizenship programs. Responsible for program implementation aligned with departmental and government strategic priorities. Manage teams and develop capability; may act as an escalation point for complex or sensitive cases.
Program Management
– manage and support the implementation, development, continuous improvement and coordination of one or more programs. Assist with interpretation of business outcomes and project goals; establish and manage stakeholder relationships; assist with budgeting, planning and resource management.
Administration Officer
– provide complex administrative support to teams, including finance, human resources, information technology and corporate activities; maintain relationships and provide specialist advice and support; deliver exceptional client services.
Policy Officer
– develop and implement evidence-based policies to support immigration policy; conduct research, analysis and interpretation of legislation; respond agilely to tight timeframes.
Compliance and Regulation
– contribute to migration program integrity, identify and resolve client immigration status issues, and progress cases to status resolution in a lawful, timely manner.
Eligibility and additional information
You are only eligible to apply for a permanent Section 26 transfer if you are a current ongoing EL1 employee with a Commonwealth government agency (not including Department of Home Affairs). If not a current ongoing EL1 employee with a Commonwealth government agency, you will be automatically disqualified.
To be eligible for the position you must be an Australian Citizen. The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (AGSVA) security clearance. ABF Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC). Home Affairs Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Onboarding Check. In some circumstances, an ESC may be required in addition to or instead of an Onboarding Check.
