The Knox School invites applications from an innovative and dynamic leader for the position of Head of Curriculum Mechanics to lead curriculum innovation, champion excellence, and shape authentic learning experiences.
The Head of Curriculum Mechanics is the master mechanic of the Senior School’s learning engine, responsible for keeping the machinery of curriculum, assessment, and reporting running at peak performance, and with purpose. Every cog—from subject design to pedagogy, from assessment to reporting—needs to work in harmony with a future-focused lens through which innovative learning and assessment practices with a real-world focus, emerging technologies, and student agency support learning that is relevant, authentic, and personalised. The Head of Curriculum Mechanics ensures this engine meets required educational standards and compliancy requirements but is also finely tuned to the School’s Strategic Vision, its pedagogical and assessment frameworks and supports the diverse needs of today’s learners.
Working in close collaboration with Heads of Department, teaching staff, and senior leadership, the Head of Curriculum Mechanics provides strategic leadership and operational oversight of the Senior School’s curriculum, assessment, and reporting processes.
The Head of Curriculum Mechanics sustains high-quality teaching, learning, and assessment practices. Leveraging data analytics, the Head supports teachers to design curriculum, lessons, and assessments that are evidence-based and informed by robust use of assessment data and documentation systems. They work closely with the Head of Academics (Years 7 to 10) and Head of Digital Strategy to establish processes for assessment and reporting.
The role also encompasses oversight of curriculum documentation and assessment platforms, ensuring their effective administration, use, maintenance, and ongoing development. In addition, the Head of Curriculum Mechanics manages the administration and delivery of standardised testing across the School, including NAPLAN and AAS, and provides detailed analyses of testing outcomes and VCE results. These insights inform cooperative planning with curriculum leaders and teaching teams, supporting continual improvement in student learning and progress.
