Program Overview
The Staying on Track program is designed to support youth aged 10-17 who are at risk of offending.
Mentors play a crucial role in providing continuity, cultural safety, and relational support to young people, helping them feel seen, heard, and respected.
The program targets dynamic risk factors such as family dysfunction, school disengagement, and substance use while strengthening protective elements like cultural identity, trusted relationships, motivation, and community connection.
The culturally safe, trauma-informed, and gender-responsive approach supports young people with dignity and respect, providing the scaffolding for long-term desistance from offending.
Mentor Responsibilities:
* Provide intensive supervision to help youth offenders turn their lives away from crime.
* Target dynamic risk factors and strengthen protective elements.
* Support young people in developing positive relationships and coping skills.
