Your Role as a Family Development Officer


As a Family Development Officer, you will play a pivotal role in transforming the lives of families within Mareeba and surrounding regions. Your primary responsibility will be to manage a caseload of families, delivering tailored interventions that enhance their capacity to maintain safe and nurturing homes for their children.

You will work collaboratively with clients, guiding them in developing personal goals and action plans that promote wellness and resilience. Your culturally sensitive approach will ensure that support services are relevant and impactful, making a real difference in the lives of those you serve.


Who We're Looking For


We are seeking enthusiastic and dedicated individuals who are passionate about supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families. If you possess a strong commitment to social justice and have the skills to engage effectively with diverse communities, we want to hear from you

* Certificate IV Qualifications in Child, Youth & Families, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health, Welfare Studies or a related field.
* Minimum two years experience working with individuals providing case management.
* Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and a deep understanding of their cultural contexts.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills to advocate for clients effectively.
* Ability to work independently while also thriving in a multi-disciplinary team environment.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to further develop your skills while making a positive impact in the community. Your ability to navigate complex challenges and provide compassionate support will be invaluable as you work towards improving the wellbeing of families.

Selection Criteria

SC 1 Demonstrated experience and knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and the social, economic and cultural factors affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

SC 2 Developed interpersonal and communication skills including the ability liaise and network with a range of stakeholders as well as effectively advocate for, and articulate the interests of, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, young people and families.

SC 3 Demonstrated ability to work independently with limited supervision, together with the ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment, prioritise and meet deadlines.

SC 4 Demonstrated ability to implement case management approaches to service delivery including the ability to undertake crisis intervention and work with individuals and families with complex needs.

SC 5 Understand current Queensland Child Safety legislation, ability to manage matters of a sensitive and confidential nature.
