What's the role?
You'll play a key role in how Westpac understands and manages model risk across Financial Markets and Treasury. Working within the Model Risk team, you'll independently assess valuation, risk and capital models used across trading and banking books, covering products across rates, FX and commodities. This role is hands‐on and varied. You'll review complex models, build and enhance independent validation tools, and clearly explain outcomes to senior stakeholders. You'll also help shape strong model risk governance and support the development of junior team members, sharing your experience and judgement along the way. It's a permanent role based in Sydney, offering exposure to a broad range of financial markets products and meaningful involvement in critical projects that matter to the bank and its customers.
What do I need?
To succeed in this role, you'll bring strong technical capability and the confidence to challenge constructively.
* At least 8-10 years experience assessing or working with financial markets valuation, risk or capital models.
* Solid understanding of interest rate risk, derivatives and market risk modelling concepts.
* Understanding regulatory standards i.e. APS111, APS116, APS117, CPS226, APS180.
* The ability to explain complex topics clearly to both technical and non‐technical stakeholders.
* Confidence engaging with senior leaders and influencing outcomes.
* Programming experience in languages such as C++, R or similar, with a practical mindset.
* A tertiary qualification in a quantitative discipline.
