Role
Our Specimen Services department is looking for a Trainee or Medical Laboratory Technician. This is a permanent, full time position of 80 hours per fortnight. As we are a 24/7 laboratory and our department operates from 4:00 am to midnight, participation in the evening shifts and weekend roster will be required.
Responsibilities
- Barcoding, receipting and preparing specimens coming into the laboratory; performing data entry of patient and test details; answering telephones.
- Work collaboratively as part of the team, work well under pressure, and have an eye for detail and problem-solving ability.
About you
To succeed in this role you will need:
- The ability to work in a methodical manner adhering to strict quality procedure guidelines.
- Customer focus and commitment to providing a high quality of service to internal and external customers with effective interpersonal skills.
- A sound knowledge of medical terminology, laboratory operations including safety, operation of equipment and hands-on practical experience is desirable, but not essential.
- Diploma in Applied Science, or a Bachelor of Science would be an advantage, but not essential.
- Registration with the Medical Science Council and an Annual Practising Certificate as a Medical Laboratory Pre-Analytical Technician in Specimen Services is desirable, but not essential.
- Willingness to participate in an evening/after-hours roster and be on call as required.
- Eligibility to work in New Zealand.
