The Role
We're looking for a Senior Infrastructure Engineer to join a lean, high-performing IT team based in Brisbane. This role will act as the primary technical escalation point (L3) across infrastructure and networking and will operate as the 2IC to the IT Manager.
The environment is currently hybrid, combining on-prem infrastructure with Microsoft Azure cloud services. Two major initiatives are in planning stages, including Active Directory domain consolidation and further migration from on‐prem systems into Azure.
This is a hands‐on position with genuine ownership. The focus is approximately 70% infrastructure and 30% networking, and the successful candidate will play a key role in shaping future‐state architecture while ensuring operational stability across a distributed, multi‐site environment.
Location: Brisbane, QLD
Eligibility: Full working rights (no sponsorship available)
WFH: Hybrid role (3 days onsite)
Key Responsibilities
* Act as the primary Level 3 escalation point for complex infrastructure and networking incidents.
* Design, implement, and support enterprise network and Azure cloud infrastructure across multiple sites in a hybrid environment.
* Lead and contribute to on‐prem to Azure migration initiatives, including Active Directory domain consolidation and infrastructure uplift.
* Own and manage Fortigate firewall and SD‐WAN environments, ensuring performance, optimisation, and secure connectivity.
* Develop and maintain secure network policies covering VPNs, routing, segmentation, IDS/IPS, and governance controls.
* Configure and support Azure services including VNets, routing, VMs, storage, identity, and security controls.
* Implement and maintain Infrastructure‐as‐Code using Terraform, ARM, or Bicep to enable repeatable and auditable deployments.
* Drive automation initiatives using PowerShell and Bash to reduce manual effort and improve efficiency.
* Support disaster recovery planning, testing, and resilience improvements across infrastructure platforms.
* Contribute to infrastructure integration projects resulting from business expansion and acquisitions.
* Collaborate closely with cybersecurity and technology stakeholders to strengthen compliance and platform security.
* Work within a small team environment, uplifting capability, documentation standards, and operational maturity.
Your Experience & Background
* Degree in IT, Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience.
* 3+ years' experience in network engineering and cloud infrastructure within enterprise or multi‐site environments.
* Proven experience operating as a senior escalation point within infrastructure environments.
* Strong hands‐on experience with Fortigate firewalls and FortiManager, including VPN configuration and troubleshooting.
* Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Azure networking, compute, and security services within hybrid environments.
* Experience supporting or contributing to infrastructure modernisation or cloud migration programs.
* Strong understanding of networking fundamentals including BGP, OSPF, TCP/IP, SD‐WAN, and VPN technologies.
* Experience implementing Infrastructure‐as‐Code using Terraform, ARM, or Bicep.
* Automation and scripting experience using PowerShell and/or Bash.
* Comfortable operating in a lean team where ownership and accountability are essential.
What Would Be Highly Regarded
* Experience supporting hybrid cloud environments across distributed multi‐site operations.
* Exposure to cybersecurity frameworks and data protection best practices.
* Experience contributing to infrastructure consolidation or acquisition integration projects.
* Ability to balance immediate operational priorities with long‐term architectural improvements.
* Experience mentoring or guiding junior engineers.
