About the Role
This position requires a leader who can drive our First Peoples collections forward. You will be responsible for building strong relationships with our stakeholders, enhancing access to our collections, and leading our communications strategy.
Key Responsibilities
* Culturally Respectful Relationships: Engage with Aboriginal communities, the TMAG Aboriginal Advisory Council, and national/international stakeholders to build trust and understanding.
* Collections Access and Knowledge-Sharing: Ensure culturally safe access to collections and integrate Indigenous knowledge into curatorial practices.
* Communications Strategy: Embed First Peoples voices in exhibitions, programs, and visitor experiences to remove barriers and foster collaboration.
Requirements
Evidence of the following must be provided prior to appointment: The Head of the State Service has determined that this is an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people identified position, and the person nominated for this role is to meet the Tasmanian Government's eligibility requirements in accordance with Employment Direction No. 10 – Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Employment in the State Service.
An awareness of First Peoples Collections in museums and/or art galleries is desirable. Some work outside of normal hours and interstate travel involving overnight absences may be required. A current full car driver's licence is also preferred.
