QUALIFICATIONS

* Has the ability to organize and supervise a total sports program.
* Has previous successful coaching experience in assigned sport, preferably as a Head/Varsity.
* Has substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sportand, at the same time, must continue to examine new theories and procedures pertinent tothe field.
* Serves as an appropriate role model for student athletes throughhis/her instructions and actions.
* Attends professional development opportunities (Clinics, etc) relative to respective sport.
* Pursues and obtains membership in state level coaching association of respective sport.

The athletic director, who provides overall objectives and final evaluation inconjunction with the high school principals

JOB GOAL

To instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy and physical trainingnecessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success. At the sametime, the coach must instruct and demonstrate behaviors that lead to sociallyacceptable character development, self-discipline, self-confidence, and pride ofaccomplishment in the student athletes. To upgrade his/her knowledge and skillsthrough coaching clinics, observations, consultation, etc.

GENERAL

* The success of athletic programs has a strong influence on the community'simage of the entire system. The public exposure is a considerableresponsibility and community/parent pressure for winning performance istaxing, but must not override the objectives of good sportsmanship and goodmental health.
* The position includes other unusual aspects such as extended time, risk injuryfactor and due process predicaments.
* It is the express intent of this job description to give sufficient guidance tofunction. In cases not specifically covered, it shall be assumed that a coachshall exercise common sense and good judgment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

* Has a thorough knowledge of all the athletic policies approved by theGriffith PublicSchools' Board of Education and is responsible for their implementation by the entire staff of thesports program.
* Has knowledge of and interprets existing system, state and league regulations.
* Understands the proper administrative line of command and refers all requests or grievances throughproper channels. Will be aware of all public/staff/departmental meetings that require attendance.
* Supervises student athletes from start of practice until the end of practice and will supervise until the last team member has left.

STAFF RESPONSIBILITIES

* Establishes the fundamental philosophy, skills and techniques to be taught by staff. Designsconferences, clinics and staff meetings to insure staff awareness of overall program.
* Maintains discipline, adjusts grievances and works to increase morale and cooperation.
* Performs such other duties that may be assigned by the athletic director/principal.

ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES

* Assists in the necessary preparation to hold scheduled sporting events or practices and adheres toscheduled facility times. Coordinates program(s) with maintenance and school employees.
* Provides documentation to fulfill state and system requirements concerning physical examinations,parental consent and eligibility.
* Provides proper safeguards for maintenance and protection of assigned equipment sites.
* Advises the athletic director and recommends policy, method or procedural changes.

RESPONSIBILITIES TO STUDENTS

* Serves as a mentor to each athlete to promote the development and demonstration in student athletes'character traits of trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship.
* Gives constant attention to a student athlete's grades and conduct.
* provides assistance, guidance andsafeguards for each participant.
* Provides training rules and any other unique regulations of the sport to each athlete who isconsidered a participant by his/her presence at all practices games and while traveling.
* Completes paperwork on all disabling athletic injuries on proper forms and submits to athletic officewithin 24 hours.
* Directs student managers, assistants and statisticians.
* Determines discipline, delineates procedures concerning due process when the enforcement ofdiscipline is necessary, and contacts parents when a student is dropped or becomes ineligible.
* Assists athletes in their college or advanced educational selection.

FINANCE AND EQUIPMENT

* Recommends equipment guidelines as to type, style, color or technical specifications. Responsible for operating within budget appropriations.
* Collects the cost of any equipment lost or not returned.Is accountable for arranges, issuing, storing and reconditioning of equipment and submits annual inventory for current records.
* Properly marks and identifies all equipment before issuing or storing.
* Monitors equipment rooms and coaches' offices. Authorizes who may enter, issue or requisitionequipment.
* Permits the athletes to only be in authorized areas of the building at appropriate times.
* Examines locker rooms before and after practices and games, checking on general cleanliness of thefacility. Supervises cleanliness and maintenance of specific sport equipment.
* Secures all doors, lights, windows and locks before leaving building if custodians are not on duty.
* Instills in each player a respect for equipment and school property, its care and proper use.

PUBLIC RELATIONS

* Organizes parents, coaches, players and guests for preseason meetings.
* Promotes the sport within the school through recruiting athletes who are not in another sportsprogram and promotes the sport outside the school through news media, little league programs, or inany other feasible manner.
* Prepares a quality, effective and valid communication through oral or written releases to local media.
* Maintains good public relations with news media, booster club, parents, officials, volunteers and fans.
