About the Role
The Technical Services Coordinator provides operational leadership and specialist technical expertise to deliver safe, high-quality technical services for teaching, research and external engagement across designated laboratory and technical spaces. Working with a high degree of autonomy, the role coordinates technical staff and resources, maintains and improves specialised equipment and facilities, and partners with stakeholders to ensure services remain aligned to evolving faculty priorities.
Key Responsibilities
* Leading the delivery of safe, high-quality technical and laboratory services to support teaching, research and external engagement activities.
* Coordinating day-to-day laboratory operations, ensuring technical readiness, service continuity and responsive stakeholder support across students, academics and researchers.
* Managing specialised equipment and facilities, including maintenance, troubleshooting, servicing, procurement support and continuous improvement initiatives.
* Promoting a strong safety and compliance culture by overseeing WHS procedures, risk assessments, training, audits and safe laboratory/fieldwork practices.
* Providing leadership and operational coordination for technical staff, teaching support, scheduling, resource planning and efficient use of facilities and budgets.
Key Selection Criteria
* Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage professionally with academic staff, students, and external stakeholders.
* Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary and high performing teams.
* Broad and deep understanding of laboratory operations, including high volume teaching service as well as research operations, scientific procedures, and use of specialised equipment used across the Physics, Chemistry & Forensics disciplines.
* Extensive experience of working in chemical-intensive laboratory environments and/or supporting higher-risk activities (e.g., laser laboratories where applicable), including implementing local controls, training/competency support and safe work practices.
* Demonstrated leadership and team management skills, including the ability to allocate work equitably, support staff development, and foster a high-performance culture.
* Proven ability to mentor and train staff and students in technical procedures, equipment use, and safe work practices.
Base Salary Range
$109,014 - $120,596 pa (HEW 7)
This role attracts 17% superannuation (pension) in addition to the base salary.
