Rural Emergency Physician Opportunity
We are seeking a Rural Emergency Physician to join our team at Broadford Hospital on the Isle of Skye. This is a unique opportunity to work in a small acute community hospital with a high quality of life, beaches, mountains and opportunities for work/life balance.
The successful candidate will be based at Broadford Hospital and will see, assess and treat a wide variety of patients from across Skye, Lochalsh and South West Ross, including a large number of seasonal tourists. They will also manage the 19 in-patients with the ward nursing team and participate in weekly fracture and minor surgery clinics.
Support from Advance Nurse Practitioners is provided, and the nearest District General Hospital support is available from Inverness by phone or video conference.
Work will be a mixture of ED and ward-based duties, including ED shifts of 12.5 hours (day or night) and a ward doctor week (Monday to Friday) to ensure continuity of care.
The ideal candidate will be on the Specialist Register for General Practice or Emergency Medicine and have prior experience in anaesthetics, minor surgery, fracture management and inpatient care. Training will be provided via attachments to Raigmore Hospital, Inverness, and other hospitals as required.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide a mix of ED and ward-based care for patients across Skye, Lochalsh and South West Ross, including trauma and major/minor emergencies.
* Assess and treat a wide range of conditions; work with Advance Nurse Practitioners for patient care.
* Contribute to weekly fracture and minor surgery clinics; participate in resuscitation and evacuation activities.
* Support the birthing unit and nurse-led chemo/infusion and dialysis units as required.
* Ensure continuity of care from admission to discharge or transfer for inpatients (19 beds).
* Coordinate with consultant colleagues at the nearest DGH when required (Inverness).
Required Qualifications and Skills:
* On the Specialist Register for General Practice or Emergency Medicine.
* Prior experience in anaesthetics, minor surgery, fracture management and inpatient care is advantageous.
* Training provided via attachments to Raigmore Hospital, Inverness and other hospitals as required.
