About the Role:
Peats Ridge Harvest is a long-established commercial farming business based in Peats Ridge on the NSW Central Coast. Established over 40 years ago, the farm spans 68 acres of productive land and includes 10 tunnel greenhouses used for year-round cultivation, together with outdoor paddocks and expanding avocado production. The business supplies produce through its local market operations and wholesale channels, and is continuing to grow its production capacity across the property.
We are seeking a full-time Irrigation Technician to support the ongoing operation, maintenance and improvement of irrigation systems across the farm. This role is suited to someone with practical experience in irrigation, water management and farm infrastructure, and will play an important part in supporting crop health, productivity and efficient water use across both greenhouse and outdoor growing areas. The role will also assist with irrigation upgrades and expansion works as additional land is brought into production and the farm continues to expand its avocado and market crop operations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
· Plan, coordinate and monitor irrigation activities across the farm in line with crop requirements, seasonal conditions and production needs
· Plan and schedule irrigation requirements for greenhouse crops, avocado trees and market crops
· Monitor soil moisture, weather conditions and crop performance to adjust irrigation schedules accordingly
· Determine water application timing and volume to support crop health, productivity and efficient water use
· Inspect, test, maintain and repair irrigation systems and infrastructure across the property
· Monitor and maintain pumps, valves, filters, meters, pipelines, drip systems and sprinkler systems
· Identify and rectify leaks, blockages, pressure issues and other faults affecting water delivery
· Flush irrigation lines and check system performance to ensure reliable operation
· Monitor water run-off, system output and distribution efficiency across greenhouse and outdoor growing areas
· Record and report irrigation performance issues, maintenance requirements and water usage patterns
· Assist with irrigation planning for newly developed planting areas and expansion of existing production zones
· Support the design and layout of irrigation systems for areas of land being brought into production
· Assist with irrigation upgrades, new installations and broader farm development works
· Assist with the monitoring and application of fertiliser through irrigation systems where required
· Maintain records of irrigation schedules, repairs, maintenance activities and system issues
· Follow workplace health and safety requirements and safe work practices in connection with irrigation systems, farm machinery, water systems and chemical use
Skills and Qualifications:
· Relevant qualification in irrigation, agriculture, horticulture, or a related field, or equivalent relevant work experience
· At least 2-3 years of experience in a relevant position
· Practical experience with irrigation scheduling, water management and irrigation system maintenance
· Experience working with pumps, valves, filters, pipelines, drip systems and sprinkler systems
· Ability to identify faults and carry out maintenance and repairs to irrigation infrastructure
· Strong practical problem-solving skills and ability to work effectively in a commercial farming environment
Pay: $70,000.00 – $90,000.00 per year
