Located in the picturesque Dandenong Ranges, _Puffing Billy Railway_, a Victorian State Government entity, is Australia's premier preserved steam railway. Operating on the original mountain track from Belgrave to Gembrook, this century-old train offers a range of fun-filled experiences for visitors young and old.
A major tourist attraction, _Puffing Billy Railway_ continues to be a popular destination for visitors, thanks to the tireless efforts of more than 300 volunteers and a team of dedicated staff.
**About the Role**
Reporting to the Way & Works Manager, the Rail Supervisor is a leadership position that carries a range of responsibilities to ensure that _Puffing Billy Railway_ corridor and infrastructure are constructed and maintained safely and efficiently to the standards set out by the Office of the National Rail Safety Regulator and our Board.
Leading a small team of employees and volunteers this is a role with lots of variety - you might be desk bound writing reports one day then helping to clear trees from the track after a storm the next!
Some of your day to day responsibilities will include, (but not limited to):
- Ensure safe, compliant and environmentally acceptable working methods and practices are implemented and that adequate resources are made available for rail track workers.
- Provide direction and leadership to a team of rail track workers through delegation of maintenance tasks and direction of project requirements to maintain safe rail infrastructure assets across their lifecycle.
- Ensure rail infrastructure assets are designed, constructed, and maintained to appropriate standards that ensure safety.
- Organise, allocate, coordinate and direct construction activities in accordance with track and locomotive schedules to complete the works to a quality standard, on time and within budget.
- Ensure all activities are performed safely and adherence to industry standards, codes, compliance requirements and site safety regulations.
- Oversee all maintenance, upgrades and renewals as defined by the Railway's Infrastructure department and lead the development, procurement, and integration of new rail infrastructure assets.

You will have a **strong understanding of the importance of maintaining critical infrastructure to strict standards** and adopting a risk management and mitigation approach.
You are operationally strong and set an example of positive behaviour values and safe practises.
Your well-developed interpersonal skills will help to build effective working relationships to achieve high productivity working teams.
