About the Role
As a Collections Officer, you will support customers experiencing financial stress by engaging them early, understanding their circumstances and helping them regain control of their loan commitments. You will manage a portfolio of accounts, negotiate practical repayment solutions and ensure customers are treated fairly, empathetically and in line with regulatory standards.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing a portfolio of customer accounts in arrears and engaging proactively to prevent escalation.
- Assessing customers' financial position and identifying appropriate hardship or repayment options.
- Negotiating sustainable payment arrangements aligned with policy, legislation and customer needs.
- Maintaining accurate and compliant records within loan and CRM systems.
- Collaborating with internal teams including Risk, Legal, Customer Service and Dispute Resolution.
- Supporting internal dispute resolution processes and contributing to improvement initiatives.
About You
You are an empathetic communicator who brings professionalism, calmness and sound judgement to every interaction. You understand the sensitivity and urgency involved in collections and hardship work.
You will bring:
- 2–3+ years' Australian experience, gained in the banking or finance sector, in collections, hardship assistance or legal recoveries
- Strong financial assessment abilities and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills for sensitive conversations.
- Understanding of NCCP obligations, privacy laws and compliant practices.
- Strong organisational skills and ability to manage competing priorities.
- Resilience, empathy and a customer-centred approach.
