About the team
Join a professional team of surveyors within the Hydrographic & Geospatial Surveying unit, delivering specialist hydrographic, monitoring, laser scanning, and engineering surveys across the city. This role will support a range of survey projects and assist the Engineering and Outsourcing Survey teams when required. You will work closely with internal stakeholders, including coastal engineers, canals and waterways, and designing teams, to help deliver survey requirements from planning through to final delivery. The position will also assist the Hydrographic and Geospatial Surveying Coordinator with operational tasks and contribute to the ongoing development of the city's surveying capabilities and technologies.
About the role
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Surveyor – Hydrographic & Geospatial Surveying to provide specialist technical expertise and lead the delivery of complex engineering survey projects from concept through to completion. This critical role supports coastal protection, infrastructure planning, and sustainability initiatives through the provision of accurate bathymetric data and expert technical advice. You'll work across a variety of marine environments, from our iconic surf zones and offshore reefs to canals, lakes and urban waterways, applying advanced technology and field leadership to support key City and State programs.
Responsibilities include:
* Lead and deliver engineering and geospatial survey projects from planning through to completion
* Conduct construction set-out, feature surveys, and as-constructed data capture
* Manage project performance, budgets, timeframes, quality, and compliance requirements
* Provide technical expertise and surveying advice to stakeholders and project teams
* Supervise and mentor survey staff while supporting continuous improvement initiatives
* Review and verify survey documentation, designs, and project deliverables for compliance and accuracy
We're looking for people who have:
* Bachelor's degree in Spatial Science (Surveying) and/or equivalent relevant industry experience
* Registration with the Surveyors Board of Queensland
* Current C Class Driver's Licence
* Coxswain Grade 1 Certificate advantageous
* Extensive experience in engineering, hydrographic, or geospatial surveying
* Strong knowledge of construction set-out, ADAC, machine control, and engineering survey practices
* Proficient in 12D model
* Proven ability to manage projects, budgets, and stakeholder relationships
* Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
* Commitment to Workplace Health & Safety, quality assurance, and continuous improvement initiatives
