Location: Hybrid (Morwell/Melbourne)

Employment Type: Full-Time

Remuneration: $90,000 - $110,000 (Ex. Super)

About Rural Fibre Co & Splice Internet

Rural Fibre Co (RFC) is building a wholesale fibre network to connect regional communities with high-speed internet. Our retail arm, Splice Internet, is redefining what connectivity feels like for rural Australia — fast, fun, and frictionless.

With a small but highly capable team, we are scaling an ambitious mission: to deliver next-generation fibre, while building systems and operations that are as innovative as the network itself.

As Financial Controller, you will play a critical role in ensuring financial sustainability, clarity, and growth across both RFC and Splice.

The role

We're looking for a Financial Controller who is both thorough and adaptable. You'll take charge of preparing and analysing financials across several entities, making sure everything is accurate and compliant, while also finding ways to make our processes more efficient and uncovering growth opportunities.

This role isn't just about sitting behind spreadsheets. You'll work directly with our leadership team and external partners, turning financial data into clear insights that help shape key business decisions and guide our growth.

A week in the life at Splice will look like for you…

Always-in-focus - You'll keep our finances compliant and audit-ready, give leaders clear visibility, highlight risks and opportunities, and turn data into insights while maintaining strong day-to-day financial discipline.

Daily Specific Tasks

Monday - Prepare and update financial models with actuals, driving cashflow reviews

Tuesday - Reconcile payments, invoices and receipts from across business segments.

Wednesday - Run payroll and ensuring correct hours are entered for each employee

Thursday - Meet with senior leadership to discuss financials and query model updates.

Friday - Complete any remainder tasks throughout the week, and track spend against budgeted amounts.

About you

You're a Chartered Accountant (CA/CPA) who's just as comfortable with compliance and audit as you are rolling up your sleeves in a fast-growing, entrepreneurial environment. You're accurate and detail-oriented, but you also think like a builder — spotting ways to streamline processes, improve systems, and create financial structures that scale.

You enjoy working beyond the traditional finance box, collaborating with leaders on strategy and turning financial insights into clear actions that drive growth. You're comfortable juggling multiple entities, balancing hands-on tasks with forward-looking modelling, and you're motivated by the idea of shaping a business that's challenging the status quo and making a real impact in regional Australia.

The things you'll do

* Prepare regular financial statements, including full-year reports to Australian financial standards (audit-ready).
* Preparation of monthly/quarterly IAS and BAS statements with the ATO
* Preparation of year end reporting for tax advisers for completion of annual tax returns
* Maintain and update financial models, including rolling three-year forecasts.
* Analyse financials to identify risks, efficiencies, and growth opportunities.
* Deliver accurate, timely reports to senior managers.
* Manage day-to-day financial operations including receipts, invoices, payments, and payroll.
* Oversee multiple entities and cost centres, ensuring accurate consolidation.
* Help in leading a budgeting process for separate functions in the business.
* Collaborate with external partners (auditors, advisors, etc.) when required.

What you'll bring

* CA/CPA qualification (or equivalent) with proven financial management experience.
* Strong technical grounding in Australian accounting standards and compliance.
* Experience in multi-entity reporting and consolidated accounts.
* Advanced modelling and forecasting skills (ideally using platforms such as Madano in sync with Xero)
* Ability to distil complex financials into clear insights for non-financial managers.
* Comfort with hands-on operations — data entry, reconciliations, payroll — alongside strategic work.
* A problem-solving mindset: you spot inefficiencies and propose fixes.
* A bias toward action, you're willing to try new things and learn fast.
* Experience with rural brands, telecommunications, or fast-growing startups.
* Willingness to live our values of "Dare to be Different", "Play together, Win together", "No Bullsh*t", "Get Sh*t Done" and "Everybody Goes Home"

Why join us?

* Competitive pay and opportunities for career growth in a rapidly expanding

telecommunications company.
* 5 Weeks' annual leave plus 3 days' community service leave.
* Opportunity to shape the technology direction of a fast-growing ISP.
* Direct impact on rural communities by delivering better internet access.
* Autonomy to build solutions from scratch and make key technical decisions.
* Work in a fast-paced, collaborative, and problem-solving environment.
* Potential for equity in Rural Fibre Co as we grow.

If you're a creative, data-driven marketer who thrives on building systems, testing ideas, and telling stories that connect, we'd love to hear from you. Apply now and help shape how Splice and RFC show up in the world, online, offline, and everywhere in between.
