About The Opportunity
This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in maintaining and enhancing the natural and built environments that shape our community. In this position, you will contribute to the care and presentation of our Parks, Gardens and Open Spaces, Cemeteries, Reserves, Beaches and Foreshores, and Streetscapes. Your work will directly support the beauty, functionality, and sustainability of these valued community assets. About You
- Demonstrated qualifications for operating vehicles and relevant item/s of plant; including, possession of current Driver's Licence Class 'C'; (Special Vehicle endorsement - Class 'UD' & Class 'MR' or 'HR' is desirable).
- A Certificate II or higher in a Horticultural related field is mandatory.
- Possession of a current Construction Industry General Safety Induction is essential.
- Industry experience in Parks Environment, Landscape and Horticultural activities; that may include labouring, gardening, cleaning, maintenance and repair, maintaining and pruning vegetation, grass and turf management, herbicide application, playscape maintenance, traffic control and signage set-out.
- Demonstrated high level of experience operating relevant item/s of plant.
- Workplace Health and Safety Certificate of Competency for the relevant itern/s of plant.
- Demonstrated high level of ability to correctly operate and basic maintenance of various items of machinery and equipment relevant to the position.
- Sound knowledge or the ability to gain knowledge in the applications of Council work practices, policies, procedures and guidelines.
- Sound Written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated high level of ability to understand and complete established forms and general reporting requirements relevant to the position.
- Good interpersonal skills to effectively liaise with Council staff and the general public.
- Physical capability to frequently perform manual labouring tasks as described in the position description and role clarity statement- that may involve strenuous activity, repetitive actions and work in an outdoors environment exposed to natural elements.
- Demonstrated high level of ability to plan and schedule tasks to ensure they are performed efficiently.
- A sound knowledge of/or the ability to acquire sound knowledge of Part 3 of the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
- Demonstrated high level of knowledge and experience in maintenance and improvement of parks, streetscape, landscape and horticultural environments
- Demonstrated high level of ability to work effectively within a team environment under general supervision ensuring that outcomes are achieved.
- Provision of a satisfactory Criminal History Check - Police Certificate (Australia wide - name only).
- A Chainsaw Ticket and Herbicide Operator Ticket (AC/DC) is desirable).
