Bunbury Cemetery Board

The Bunbury Cemetery Board was originally established in 1914 and administered by the local town and then Bunbury City Council.

In July 1992, the present Bunbury Cemetery Board was established by the Minister for Local Government, to administer and operate the Bunbury Cemetery Board facilities and is a State Government Authority that is legislated by The Cemeteries Act 1986(as amended) and The Cremations Act 1929(as amended)

The Board consists of 7 members, appointed by the Minister for Local Government; Disability Services; Volunteering; Youth; Gascoyne.

Three positions on the Bunbury Cemetery Board are available to be filled.

The positions, which can be made for a maximum term of five(5) years, will commence on 1st July 2026.

The Board is responsible for the care, control and management of the Bunbury Cemetery and members are required to attend Board meetings and to be active and willing to participate in Board projects, committees and decisions.

As Cemetery Boards provide public services, they are expected to have strong governance capabilities across legislative, financial and operational domains to plan for, and deliver, services.

Applicants should possess skills and/or experience which are advantageous to the governance of a Cemetery Board, in one or more of the following areas:

* corporate governance;
* financial management;
* risk management;
* accounting;
* involvement in community service organisations;
* legal matters;
* previous experience on community boards and committees

Applicants should address the following criteria:

* experience representing the local community in which the relevant cemetery is located;
* capacity to think and act strategically and operate effectively at the Board level;
* appreciation of the role of the Board within the community and an appreciation of local issues; and
* an understanding of the objectives, roles, duties and obligations of being a Board Member.

Please note that the successful candidates will be required to obtain a Director ID prior to commencing their term.
