Due to the nature of the work only candidates that hold a current AGSVA clearance of NV1 or above can be considered.

THE ROLE

As the Engineering Lead you will be responsible for Technical management across solution architecture and systems engineering to deliver fit-for-purpose Defence ICT capabilities.

The role shapes and governs technical outcomes across multiple delivery streams and suppliers, ensuring solutions are coherent, secure, supportable and meet acceptance and assurance requirements.

DUTIES
* Provide engineering leadership and coordination across work packages, aligning requirements, architecture, integration and test activities to project outcomes and delivery milestones.
* Assure development and maintenance of target and transitional architectures in collaboration with domain architects; ensure alignment with Defence enterprise architecture, security constraints and acquisition objectives.
* Define and govern the systems integration strategy: interface management, environment strategy, integration sequencing, data/integration patterns and integration readiness criteria.
* Chair technical working groups and design reviews (e.g., SRR/PDR/DDR); drive decisions, manage trade-offs, document design decisions and ensure actions are closed.
* Assure supplier engineering deliverables (requirements, HLD/LLD, interface designs, deployment architecture, test artefacts, as-built documentation) for completeness, consistency, quality and compliance with contract and standards.
* Assure end-to-end traceability across requirements → design → build → test → acceptance evidence; ; ensure non-functional requirements (security, performance, availability, supportability) are reflected and verified.
* Define verification and validation approach with test leads: acceptance criteria, integration test strategy/plans, evidence requirements, defect triage processes and release readiness gates.
* Manage technical risks, issues and dependencies: maintain technical risk register, perform impact assessments, propose mitigations and escalate material risks to governance.
* Provide technical inputs to acquisition activities including tender evaluation support, technical evaluation criteria, statements of work, contract deliverables, and acceptance/handover artefacts.
* Support transition-to-sustainment: ensure operational documentation, support models, configuration baselines, and knowledge transfer are complete and fit-for-purpose.
* Mentor and coach engineers and architects; set engineering standards and ways of working; drive continuous improvement and repeatability through appropriate automation and quality practices.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS / EXPERIENCE
* Extensive experience in systems engineering, integration and/or solution delivery on large, complex ICT programs with multi-vendor dependencies.
* Demonstrated capability providing technical leadership, governance and assurance.
* Proven ability to define and govern integration approaches (interfaces, environments, sequencing, data/integration patterns) and to manage interface control and design decisions.
* Strong architecture skills: producing target/transitional architectures, standards/patterns and technical roadmaps, and assuring alignment to enterprise and security constraints.
* Strong requirements and traceability management from needs through to design, test and acceptance evidence, including nonfunctional requirements.
* Experience with verification/validation and acceptance: test strategy/plans, acceptance criteria, evidence-based assurance, and defect/issue triage.
* Strong stakeholder engagement, facilitation and negotiation skills, including chairing technical forums and presenting recommendations and risks to senior governance bodies.
* Strong documentation and engineering management skills: engineering plans, design packs, decision records, risk/issue registers and quality reviews.
* NV1 or above clearance is mandatory.
* Ability to access Export Controlled information is mandatory.
DESIRABLE SKILLS / EXPERIENCE
* Experience in Defence ICT acquisition projects, including tender evaluation support, contract deliverables assurance, acceptance and transition to sustainment.
* Familiarity with systems engineering and architecture standards/methods (e.g., ISO/IEC/IEEE 15288, TOGAF or equivalent) and engineering governance approaches.
* Experience delivering into classified or regulated environments, including collaboration with cyber/security authorities and accreditation stakeholders.
* Experience across one or more ICT domains (networks, platforms, applications, identity, endpoint/EUC, cloud/hybrid) with an integration mindset.
* Proficiency with engineering/architecture tooling (e.g., CATIA) and delivery tooling (e.g., Jira/Confluence); experience with requirements tools (e.g., DOORS/Jama) is advantageous
* Relevant certifications and/or qualifications (e.g., TOGAF, cloud certifications, ITIL, CISSP/CCSP, or tertiary qualification in engineering/ICT).
