AME Systems is seeking a Design Engineer – Wiring Harnesses to join our engineering team.
The successful candidate will contribute to the design and delivery of robust, manufacturable wiring harness solutions that meet customer, regulatory, and internal quality requirements.
Graduates may be considered for this position subject to qualifications and experience.
Role Purpose
The Design Engineer is responsible for the development, documentation, and support of wiring harness designs across diverse customer platforms.
Graduate engineers will be supported by senior engineers, while experienced engineers will take greater ownership of designs from concept through release.
Key Responsibilities
Core Responsibilities (All Levels)
* Create detailed wiring harness and loom designs, schematics, and formboards; define connectors, terminals, seals, protection (tapes, braids, tubes, heat shrink), splices, and mounting/retention hardware to meet environmental, EMC, and mechanical constraints
* Use Siemens Capital to author harness designs, generate manufacturing documentation (BOMs, cutting lists, connector/wire/splice tables), and manage options/variants for derivative harnesses
* Interpret customer specifications and applicable industry standards
* Collaborate with production, quality, test, and supply chain teams to ensure designs are manufacturable and meet all customer requirements.
* Support continuous improvement and issue resolution activities
* Maintain engineering documentation in accordance with AME Systems' quality system
* Comply with all workplace health and safety requirements
Additional Responsibilities – Experienced Level
* End-to-end ownership of harness designs from concept through release
* Define connectors, terminals, seals, splices, protective coverings, and other components for a digitised workflow.
* Develop Java-based automation or rules to improve design quality and efficiency
* Lead DFM/DFT activities and support in-process and end-of-line testing strategies
* Manage design baselines, options/variants, and engineering change activities
* Engage directly with customers and external stakeholders
* Apply structured problem-solving methods (e.g. 8D, 5 Whys, FMEA)
* Learn harness design fundamentals under supervision of senior engineers
* Develop capability using Siemens Capital for designs, formboards, and reporting
* Gain exposure to ECAD–MCAD collaboration and manufacturing workflows
* Grow understanding of wiring harness testing methods
* Learn structured problem-solving and quality system requirements
Selection Criteria
Essential (All Applicants)
* Degree qualification in Electrical, Electronics, Mechatronics, or a closely related discipline
* Strong analytical and problem-solving capability
* High attention to detail
* Effective written and verbal communication skills
* Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional engineering and manufacturing environment
Experienced-Level Requirements
* Demonstrated experience in wiring harness design and development
* Proficiency with eCAD harness tools, preferably Siemens Capital
