Opportunity
The Assistant Financial Accountant plays a key role in delivering high‐quality financial accounting services to the University, supporting the integrity of the general ledger, month‐end, year‐end processes and statutory reporting. This role provides technical accounting expertise, analysis, and advice across the University. The position also contributes to continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen financial governance and support informed decision‐making.
Responsibilities
* Contribute to core financial accounting functions, including daily financial processing and university‐wide month‐end and year‐end close activities.
* Prepare month‐end and year‐end adjustments, undertake financial analysis for periodic and statutory reporting, and respond to internal and external audit requests.
* Assist with mandatory State and Federal Government reporting, benchmarking surveys, and the preparation of annual financial statements.
* Maintain the integrity of SAP through transaction review, reconciliations, variance analysis, and balance sheet management, working closely with Treasury as required.
* Support financial accounting projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
* Build strong relationships with stakeholders to enable efficient, high‐quality service delivery.
Qualifications
* Degree in business or accounting, along with CA/CPA accreditation.
* Strong experience using SAP or a comparable large financial system.
* Sound knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards.
* Excellent time management with the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines.
* Clear, confident communicator able to raise issues and explain financial reporting matters effectively.
* High‐level analytical, numerical and problem‐solving skills.
* Advanced Excel skills and strong capability across the MS Office suite.
* Proven ability to build effective, trusted relationships with diverse stakeholders.
