Location: ACT / QLD / VIC (Hybrid)Security Clearance: Baseline (Mandatory)Contract Length: 12 months + up to 24 months extensions (Department discretion)
About the position:This Principal Software Engineer role operates at EL2-equivalent level within a national-scale enterprise ICT environment. The position carries organisational responsibility for software strategy, architectural direction, release governance, and technical capability uplift.This is not a senior developer role with added mentoring. It is a technical authority role accountable for setting standards, driving engineering policy, and influencing large-scale system outcomes that support essential government services.You will operate with a high degree of autonomy, providing leadership across software development, integration, release, and long-term platform sustainability.
What you'll do:Lead enterprise-level software design and architectural decisions across complex SAP and integrated platformsEstablish and enforce development standards, methodologies, and release governance frameworksOversee strategic software delivery programs including integration, deployment, and production stabilityProvide expert technical guidance to engineering leaders and influence executive-level decision making
What we are looking for:Demonstrated EL2-equivalent experience providing technical leadership across large, complex ICT programsAdvanced SAP ecosystem expertise including SAP CRM, S/4 HANA, ABAP, Fiori/UI, and integration frameworksProven capability operating at SFIA Level 6 across software design, systems development management, integration, and release governanceStrong stakeholder influence skills across business, executive, and cross-agency environments
