Our Rare Earths deposit in Mt Weld, Western Australia, is acknowledged as one of the highest-grade Rare Earths mine in the world, and the Kalgoorlie REPF is a key strategic platform for critical mineral production, blending pyrometallurgical and hydrometallurgical processes in an Australian first, mineral processing plant. We also operate the world's largest single Rare Earths processing facility in Malaysia - so you are joining a unique team As a team member you will be contributing to the sustainable supply of rare earths metals which are used in oil & gas, electric vehicles, and wind turbines.
The Role
We have an opportunity for experienced Lead Instrument and Controls Engineer wanting to join Lynas on our journey. Reporting to the WA Engineering & Construction Manager you will be responsible for providing technical leadership and direction across our site operations. This role is critical in ensuring our instrumentation and control systems are designed, developed, installed, and maintained to the highest standards of reliability, safety, and efficiency.
This is a Perth based role supporting projects at both the Mt Weld Concentrator Plant (including the Expansion Project) as well as the Kalgoorlie REPF. Frequent travel to both sites will be required, with the engineer responsible for the delivery and outcomes of the assignments as required.
Responsibilities
* Lead the development, design, and implementation of control and instrumentation systems for both new and existing plant operations.
* Oversee specification, procurement, installation, commissioning, and maintenance of control systems and field instrumentation.
* Provide expert technical support in troubleshooting, problem-solving, and system optimisation.
* Ensure compliance with Australian Standards, safety regulations, and company policies.
* Collaborate with project managers, process engineers, and external vendors to deliver integrated, cost-effective solutions.
* Manage control system documentation including P&IDs, control narratives, and loop diagrams.
* Support plant system upgrades and strengthen cybersecurity measures.
* Participate in HAZOPs, risk assessments, and other safety-related engineering reviews.
* Contribute to CAPEX planning and budgeting for control systems.
Qualifications
What we are looking for:
* Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronics, Instrumentation, or Control Systems Engineering.
* Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) or working towards (preferred).
* PLC, DCS, and safety instrumented systems training/certifications (advantageous).
Experience
* Proven experience in instrumentation and control engineering within mining, oil & gas, or heavy industry.
* Track record of leading multidisciplinary teams and managing I&C projects end-to-end.
* Strong expertise in PLC/DCS systems and functional safety.
* Knowledge of hazardous area classifications and safety standards.
Skills & Abilities
* Advanced knowledge of instrumentation, automation, and process control strategies.
* Strong project management, planning, and coordination skills.
* Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
* Clear and confident communicator with strong stakeholder engagement skills.
* Proficiency in engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD, control system configuration tools).
