Overview
North West Regional Hospital is a key healthcare provider for the Northwest community, delivering a broad range of services with a strong focus on patient‐centred care. The Food Services Department supports the wellbeing and recovery of patients by ensuring high‐quality, safe, and nutritious meals are prepared and delivered daily. Food Service Assistants contribute to the smooth operation of hospital food services through meal preparation, tray assembly, distribution, and maintaining hygiene and safety standards.
Role
You will be responsible for the preparation, cooking and service of meals for patients, residents, staff and community clients within a healthcare setting, ensuring all food is produced in accordance with standard recipes, special dietary requirements, and food safety legislation. Working under the direction of the Food Services Supervisor, the role maintains high standards of hygiene, cleanliness and workplace safety, operates kitchen equipment safely, completes required food safety documentation, and contributes to quality improvement initiatives, while supporting overall kitchen operations and ensuring effective, reliable delivery of daily food services.
Responsibilities
* Prepare, cook and serve meals for patients, residents, staff and community clients in a healthcare setting.
* Ensure all meals are produced in accordance with standard recipes, dietary requirements, and food safety legislation.
* Maintain high standards of hygiene, cleanliness, and workplace safety; operate kitchen equipment safely.
* Complete required food safety documentation and contribute to quality improvement initiatives.
* Support overall kitchen operations and ensure reliable delivery of daily food services.
Qualifications
* Certificate III in Commercial Cookery (SIT30821 or greater).
* Thorough knowledge and experience in large‐scale food preparation, production and cooking operations, and compliance with Food Safety Standards.
* High standard of personal cleanliness, hygiene and punctuality.
* Effective communication skills with the ability to understand written and verbal instructions and liaise with department staff.
Eligibility
* Relevant Trade Qualification.
Details of appointment
* Fixed term, casual position, working as and when required, commencing as soon as possible for approximately 12 months.
* Hours negotiable with the successful applicant.
* This selection process may be used for similar vacancies for up to twelve months from publication date.
Salary and benefits
* Salary: $76,849 to $82,996 per annum (Pro rata) with 12% employer superannuation on top.
* Plus 25% Casual Loading – Equivalent of $48.42 to $52.30 per hour.
