Title: Database Administrator

Details: Start date to October - Initially 3 days per week; Increasing to 5 days per week post-October. Salary will be paid on a pro-rata basis.
Role
We are seeking a hands-on and collaborative Database Administrator (DBA) to join a high-performing team. This is a T&M engagement focused on supporting business-as-usual (BAU) database operations, with the flexibility to contribute to project-based cloud migration and uplift initiatives during quieter BAU periods.
You will be working across a hybrid technology stack involving Microsoft SQL Server, Azure Managed Instances, Oracle (on-prem and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure), and Microsoft technologies.
This role suits a self-motivated individual with a strong work ethic, a willingness to share knowledge, and the ability to work effectively without constant supervision.
Key Responsibilities
BAU Support (Primary Focus)
* Maintain and support a mix of legacy and modern database environments, including:
* On-prem SQL Server (2008/2014) and Oracle databases.
* SQL and Oracle Cloud platforms.
* Perform routine patching, performance tuning, job scheduling, backups, and data integrity checks.
* Use backup and recovery tools like Rubrik and Commvault.
Project Engagement (As Needed)
* Contribute to on-prem to Azure SQL Managed Instance migration projects.
* Assist in the uplift of newly adopted Oracle Retail systems.
* Participate in discovery, planning, and execution of database migrations and uplift projects.
* Handle the migration of SQL Agent Jobs, SSIS packages, CDC, and user roles.
Qualifications Required
* 5+ years of hands-on experience administering Microsoft SQL Server databases, including versions 2008, 2014, and 2017.
* Strong expertise in SQL Server to Azure Managed Instance migration, including SSIS, SQL Agent Jobs, and CDC.
* Demonstrated experience working with Azure cloud services, particularly SQL Managed Instances and database migration tools.
* Solid understanding of Oracle databases (on-premise and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure),
* Experience supporting Oracle Retail environments or other retail domain systems is highly desirable.
* Scripting experience in SQL, PowerShell, Bash, or similar.
* Strong problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills.
