Rival Brothers Coffee Roasters is recruiting two leadership positions for our Mt Barker Cafe:
* Chef Assistant Manager (0.8 FTE - full time)
* Cafe Assistant Manager (0.8 FTE)
Both roles work closely with the Cafe Manager and leadership team to deliver exceptional customer experience, strong operational standards, and a positive, high performing culture.

Role one: Chef Assistant Manager (0.8 FTE - full time)
Lead the kitchen, shape menu offerings and drive food quality
The Chef Assistant Manager leads all kitchen operations and plays a key role in food culture and quality across the Cafe. Responsibilities include:
* Daily kitchen leadership and smooth service from 8am - 2pm
* Menu development and seasonal updates
* Catering development and execution
* Display fridge management from open to close
* Stock ordering and supplier management
* Waste minimisation and cost control
* Leadership of staff including casual chefs and all rounders
* Ensuring all food meets Rival Brothers quality, presentation and safety standards.
* Maintaining calmness and composure during peak service, modelling professionalism for the team.
Chef Requirements:
* Chef trade qualifications (Cert III in Commercial Cookery or equivalent)
* 3+ years chef experience in a fast-paced kitchen
* Leadership or supervisory experience
* Food Safety Certification
* Strong organisational skills and ability to run service independently
* Weekend and public holiday availability (one full weekend off per month and set public holidays closed)
* High desirable: Cafe management experience
Role 2: Cafe Assistant Manager (0.8 FTE)
Lead the floor, support the team and elevate the customer experience
The Cafe Assistant Manager supports the Cafe Manager and Chef Assistant Manager in delivering smooth daily operations, strong team culture and exceptional customer service. Responsibilities include:
* Front of house leadership and service coordination
* Staff supervision and training across barista, floor and support roles
* Customer experience management
* Operational support including opening/closing, cash handling, and service flow
* Roster support and team communication when Manager is on leave
* Supporting cafe standards, cleanliness and brand presentation
* Working collaboratively with the Chef Assistant Manager and kitchen staff to ensure seamless food and coffee service
* Supporting kitchen operations including food service as required
* Remaining calm, steady and confident during high pressure service periods
Cafe Assistant Manager Requirements:
* Hospitality leadership experience (cafe or similar)
* Strong barista skills including ability to dial in, problem solve and neat latte art
* Ability to stay composed, positive and solutions focused during busy periods
* Excellent communication and team building capability
* Weekend and public holiday coverage (minimum one weekend off per month and set public holidays closed)
* Highly desirable: experience in a specialty coffee environment
