About the Role
The Apprenticeship Program in Newman offers a four‐year, hands‐on career pathway for residential applicants. You will work across day‐and‐night shifts on an 8:6 or 2:1 roster, gaining practical experience alongside formal training that leads to a nationally recognised trade qualification. No mining experience is required – a motivated, reliable attitude and a willingness to learn are essential.
Trades Offered
* Heavy Diesel (Cert III Mobile Plant Technology) – maintain and repair mobile plant equipment to keep operations safe and efficient.
* Auto Electrician (Cert III Automotive Electrical Technology) – diagnose, maintain, and repair electrical components in vehicles and mobile equipment.
* Communications Technician (Certificate III in Electronics & Communications) – support the digital systems that keep operations connected.
* Electrical (Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician) – maintain critical systems to keep sites powered and equipment safe.
* Mechanical Fitter (Cert III Engineering Mechanical Trade) – maintain, repair, and install fixed plant equipment.
* Plumbing (Cert III Plumbing) – install, maintain, and repair water and drainage systems.
* Refrigeration & Air Conditioning (Certificate III in Refrigeration & Air Conditioning) – maintain cooling systems for equipment and personnel in demanding environments.
Responsibilities
* Work across day and night shifts on either an 8:6 or 2:1 roster in Newman.
* Assist in the maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of equipment relevant to your trade.
* Adhere to safety procedures and look out for the welfare of your team.
* Collaborate with experienced tradespeople to learn best practices.
* Contribute to the operational reliability of BHP's WAIO Operations.
Qualifications
* Minimum pass in Year10 Mathematics and English (Australian Curriculum).
* Valid Australian driver's licence (Learner or Provisional acceptable to start).
