The key duties of the position include The Role The APS 5 Logistics Officer plays a critical role in supporting the operational readiness of an infantry battalion by managing and coordinating logistics functions. This includes overseeing the receipt, storage, distribution, and accounting of equipment, weapons, ammunition, and other materiel in accordance with Defence policies and safety standards. The position requires strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a dynamic, high-tempo environment. Key attributes include effective communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder engagement skills. Proficiency in logistics systems (e.g. ERP), compliance with security protocols, and knowledge of WHS principles are essential. The role demands adaptability, integrity, and a commitment to continuous improvement. Typical tasks may include: Maintain accurate records of stock holdings and assets in accordance with organisational policies. Conduct regular stocktakes and audits to ensure compliance and accountability. Monitor and manage the movement of goods and materials to meet operational requirements. Liaise with suppliers, transport providers, and internal stakeholders to ensure timely delivery. Assist with procurement activities, including raising purchase orders and tracking deliveries. Support contract management processes and ensure compliance with procurement guidelines. Operate and maintain logistics information systems (e.g. ERP systems). Generate reports and analyse data to support decision-making and performance monitoring. Oversee the receipt, storage, issue, and accounting of weapons and ammunition in accordance with Defence regulations. Ensure compliance with security protocols and safety standards for handling and transporting weapons and ammunition. Maintain accurate records and conduct audits to ensure accountability and traceability. Ensure adherence to Work Health and Safety (WHS) standards and relevant legislation. Manage hazardous materials and dangerous goods in line with regulatory requirements. Identify opportunities to improve logistics processes and contribute to efficiency initiatives. Support implementation of best practices and innovation in logistics operations. The role requires strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work under pressure in a dynamic environment. Applicants should demonstrate effective communication and stakeholder engagement skills. The position may involve occasional travel and working in secure environments. Successful applicants will be required to obtain and maintain an appropriate security clearance. About our Team Our team provides critical logistics support to an infantry battalion, ensuring operational readiness through effective management of equipment, weapons, ammunition, and materiel. We coordinate supply chain activities, maintain accurate asset records, and deliver timely solutions to meet the battalion's dynamic requirements. The team is a blend of SERCAT 5 and SERCAT 7 personnel, working collaboratively to achieve objectives from depots across Victoria. This structure enables flexibility and resilience, combining permanent staff expertise with the operational experience of Reserve members.
