About BDAC

BDAC is an ACCO (Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation) registered as a member under the umbrella of VACCHO (Victorian Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation) and represented nationally through NACCHO (National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation).

BDAC was founded to represent and provide services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people living on Djaara Country.

BDAC has a responsibility to ensure growth of services, development of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community, better and improved health outcomes for our people, improved quality of life and be a lead agency in providing self-determination employment and career pathways for Aboriginal people.

Job Description

About the Role

The Placement and Support Worker is responsible to provide cultural connectedness for Aboriginal young people in Out of Home Care, with a focus on residential care, this role will provide culturally responsive service to agencies and carer's to support them in Caring appropriately for Aboriginal Children and Young people to help maintain their cultural identity and cultural safety while in out of home care.

Key Responsibilities

- Work with referred Aboriginal young people in Out of Home Care, with a focus on residential care.
- Attend care team meetings of referred Aboriginal young people
- Support planning for referred Aboriginal young people
- To work in conjunction with existing Placement services to ensure that Aboriginal Child/Young person has access to cultural connectedness to local community and is provided the appropriate cultural information to maintain Cultural safety and Identity while in Out of Home care placement
- Support practical implementation of cultural plans for referred Aboriginal young people in Care
- Liaise with the Aboriginal Cultural Planner to ensure that a CSP is completed in a timely manner
- Develop a Cultural Resource list that agencies and Carer's can access to purchase Cultural resources for the benefit of the Aboriginal Child and Young person they are providing care too.
- Other duties as requested by your team leader.

Desired Skills and Experience

About You

- Sound knowledge of local issues and needs of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community
- Knowledge of Family connections and how the dynamics of the Family linkages connect within the local community, Echuca, Kyabram, Kerang surrounding local community
- Demonstrated negotiation and advocacy skills
- Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills including the capacity to engage aboriginal children & Young people, elders of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Local community in a collaborative planning process
- Have the capacity to develop, plan, implement, manage and evaluate a program
- Understanding of all relevant legislation, policies and practices
- Knowledge of child and adolescent development and strategies for working with vulnerable children, young people and their families
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of the Aboriginal Child Placement Principle
- Demonstrated ability to sensitively work with the birth family, extended family and foster carers during the placement process & Development of Cultural support plans
- An ability to manage stressful situations
- Data collection and record keeping skills
- Current driver's license

Preferred / Desired Education, Training and/or Competencies

- Qualification in a Health & Community Services or equivalent (Cert III Minimum)
