We're looking for a Design Technologist to significantly expand our prototyping capabilities through your expert coding and design skills, all in aid of creating exceptional product experiences for our customers. This is an exciting opportunity to shape the future of how we bring ideas to life, co-create with our customers, and contribute to the evolution of our Design System and front-end best practices.What you'll doYou’ll report to an Australia-based manager within the Design team, leading our prototyping efforts.You’ll partner closely with other designers to accelerate our work by creating high-fidelity, functional prototypes for use across all design phases, from initial concept exploration to user testing and informing final development.You’ll collaborate with your peers to refine and improve existing prototypes and explore more efficient prototyping approaches, helping to define and champion front-end best practices.You’ll work with research colleagues to ensure prototypes are robust and effectively address user research objectives.You’ll play a key role in educating and mentoring other designers on best practices and techniques for advanced prototyping.You’ll contribute to the definition and creation of new patterns for our Design System, ensuring consistency and scalability across our products.You’ll be an advocate for exceptional product experiences for our customers, ensuring prototypes effectively demonstrate and validate these experiences.What you'll bring with youProven proficiency in front-end technologies such as HTML, CSS (Tailwind CSS), and JavaScript, with a strong focus on responsive design and web accessibility (WCAG).A portfolio showcasing your ability to build scalable, modular applications using component-based architecture with Next.js/React or similar.Familiarity with modern build tools (e.g., Vite, Babel, ESLint, Prettier), version control (Git/GitHub), and deployment processes.Practical experience working with design tokens and Figma for design specifications.Experience improving and documenting technical assets like boilerplates.A portfolio of work that displays both design and technology experience.Why Xero?We offer very generous paid leave to use however you’d like (plus statutory holidays!), dedicated paid leave to care for your physical and mental wellbeing, an Employee Assistance Program for mental health support, health insurance, life insurance, income protection, wellbeing and sports programs, employee resource groups, 26 weeks of paid parental leave for primary caregivers, an Employee Share Plan, beautiful offices, flexible working, career development opportunities, and many other benefits that reflect our human values.
