Primary objective
Support the Department of the Chief Minister and Cabinet's Emergency Recovery and Security Coordination unit in delivering its
emergency recovery function and building community resilience in the Northern Territory, through the whole of government
cooperative emergency management frameworks across all hazards
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide support to the Director, to develop policy, programs and procedures to enhance strategic and operational recovery
capability.
2. Support the Director, to enhance disaster resilience in the Northern Territory through the development of strategic policy and
whole of government coordination in emergency management.
3. Provide timely, evidence-based and strategic advice to all sectors on current and emerging recovery issues and trends,
community resilience and all hazard management planning.
4. Represent the NT and the Department on nominated national committees and contribute to working groups and fora to
enhance community resilience to disasters.
5. Provide leadership for the emergency management programs and committees in the ERSC.
6. Contribute to the coordination of emergency recovery operations and act in the statutory role of Regional Recovery
Coordinator when required.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated emergency management knowledge and an understanding of arrangements, policies, trends and developments
in national and Northern Territory or similar emergency recovery contexts.
2. Demonstrated knowledge of contemporary risk, crisis and emergency management issues, methodologies and arrangements
and their practical application.
3. Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication skills with well-developed interpersonal and networking capacity,
including demonstrated experience in consultation and negotiation.
4. Demonstrated capacity to manage competing priorities, exercise sound judgement and operate effectively under pressure.
5. Experience developing operational and strategic level plans, policies and procedures with relevant to a recovery environment.
6. Demonstrated ability to relate to staff at all levels including interacting effectively with people from diverse cultures.
Desirable
1. Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field or relevant emergency management qualifications.
2. Experience leading operational emergency management activities, applying strategic planning and management capabilities.

The occupant of this position should hold or be able to obtain and maintain a National Security Clearance to Negative Vetting level
one. The occupant of this position is required to work extended hours at times, including evenings, weekends and public holidays.
