The Role
The ABC is looking for a journalist/producer to drive the daily news agenda across the Pacific by commissioning, curating, reporting, producing and presenting live, high-quality content, with a strong focus on our flagship Pacific Beat (English) and Wantok (Tok Pisin) current affairs programs. You'll also create and file standout stories for digital, TV and social media platforms.
The Job
* Develop, produce and present daily Pacific-focused radio current affairs stories and interviews across key topics like politics, society, business, arts, culture and sport.
* Produce live radio broadcasts.
* Repurpose content for online, social media and digital outlets in English and Pacific languages.
* Contribute ideas in editorial meetings and collaborate with newsroom teams (The World, digital, multilingual services).
* Communicate effectively with ABC colleagues and senior staff.
* Create mobile‐friendly stories reflecting Pacific cultural, geographic and socio‐economic diversity for local, diaspora and global audiences, while tracking industry trends.
Position Description:
About You
* Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent skills and experience.
* Proven Pacific journalist/presenter with strong contacts, writing and production skills.
* Deep knowledge of Pacific politics, culture, society and Australia's regional relationships.
* Passion for telling stories that showcase Pacific islanders within Australia's diversity.
* Fluency in English; Tok Pisin or Pijin/Bislama highly desirable.
* Calm under pressure, adept at tight deadlines and quick decisions.
* Skilled at delivering Pacific coverage across platforms and the ABC network.
* Collaborative team player reaching new audiences locally and globally.
