The County of Volusia is seeking a Traffic Engineer for the Traffic Engineering Division. This position is located in DeLand, FL and is responsible for professional and technical work directing Traffic Engineering Services.
Illustrative Duties
(NOTE: These are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position.)
* Plans, directs, and coordinates the activities and policies for the county traffic program.
* Supervises traffic engineering design and drafting work. Initiates traffic engineering studies and investigations.
* Directs the analysis and interpretation of data and recommendations for improvements.
* Directs studies for long and short range traffic plans.
* Works with Development Review.
* Participates in development of the comprehensive plan and long range transportation planning.
* Prepares and directs the preparation of plans and designs.
* Formulates standards for improving the geometric of all public ways and for locating and placing all traffic signs, roadway markings, and traffic signals.
* Prepares and administers budget.
* Prepares traffic engineering reports and recommendations, attends meetings with citizens and community organizations.
* Performs related work as required.
Bachelor's degree in Traffic or Civil Engineeringand five (5) years of experience in the field of traffic engineering with major management responsibility.
NOTE: Must be registered as Professional Engineer (PE) by the State of Florida.
A comparable amount of education, training, or experience may be substituted for the minimum requirements.
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
* Knowledge of traffic engineering principles and practices.
* Knowledge of highway design and geometric, as they relate to traffic engineering and traffic control.
* Knowledge of current developments in the field of traffic engineering.
* Ability to prepare comprehensive oral and written reports.
* Ability to plan, organize, supervise, and review the work of technical skilled and unskilled employees.
* Ability to plan, organize, and direct a comprehensive traffic engineering program.
ADA REQUIREMENTS:
Physical Demands: Light work. Ability to see, talk; finger dexterity.
Environmental Demands: Inside work. Limited (less than 20%) exposure to inclement weather (rain, heat, humidity, cold), noise, fumes, dust and odors.
Mental Demands: Ability to read and comprehend technical and professional journals and manuals; financial reports, letters, memos, abstracts, instructions; legal documents, ordinances and statutes. Ability to perform general and shop math. Ability to write reports, financial reports, memos, letters, instructions and procedures. Ability to speak publicly; conversant in theory and practices of discipline to layman; persuasive speaking. Ability to analyze data and develop conclusions. Ability to identify and resolve problems.
