Director, Major Crime and Investigative PowersSeeking proven leadership experience gained in a complex environmentProvide expert legal and policy adviceThe Department of Justice and Community Safety (the department) is seeking a Director, Major Crime and Investigative Powers to provide executive leadership for the Integrity, Policy, Performance and Major Crime portfolio.About the Business Unit Justice System Coordination and Reform (JSCR) group supports the Attorney-General and department Ministers to deliver court services policy, and civil and criminal law responsibilities by providing legal, policy and stakeholder management expertise. Working collaboratively with key legal entities across the justice system and the department to ensure policy reform is strategic, relevant, holistic and people centred.JSCR supports 28 independent legal entities across the DJCS portfolio including Victoria Legal Aid, the Law Institute of Victoria, the Office of Public Prosecutions, Courts Services Victoria, VCAT, the Coronial Council of Victoria, the Victorian Institute of Forensic Medicine, and the Magistrates, Coroners, County, Supreme, and Children's Courts.About the Role Some of your duties will include:Provide high-level, accurate, timely and strategic policy advice and support to the Executive Director and Deputy Secretary to support the Attorney General, Ministers, the Secretary and other stakeholders.Lead and oversee the management and delivery of priority legislative, policy and strategic projects for the Attorney-General and other justice Ministers.Support the Executive Director and other branch Directors to oversee and deliver the Attorney-General's overall legal policy program.Provide strategic leadership and guidance to the branch and group on a range of business operational functions including the management of briefs and correspondence.Proactively build and maintain positive relationships with entities and other key stakeholders by embedding and facilitating an open partnership approach.Actively assess, monitor and manage inherent or emerging risks to the work program.Establish and maintain and critical linkages with interdependent business units within the department to ensure successful delivery of required outcomes.To learn more about this role before applying, please read the attached position description.About you To be successful in this role, you will have:A proven track record in senior management and corporate leadership in matters of operational management, resource management, quality management practices and corporate governance.Exemplary stakeholder engagement, relationship and management skills including demonstrated ability to develop effective relationships with key senior stakeholders and to deal responsively, practically and creatively with complex issues.Demonstrated ability to provide judicious, strategic, pragmatic and feasible solutions to issues relating to government.Proven resource and people management skills, including demonstrated ability to build effective high-performance teams and to successfully lead change.Sound strategic thinking skills combined with an expert understanding of how to work across Government.Qualifications / RequirementsA tertiary qualification in a relevant field is highly desirable.How to Apply Please click the Apply button on this advertisement.
