LongReach, a joint venture between Pacific Seeds and Syngenta Australia, has set new standards in the management and operation of wheat breeding, both in Australia and abroad. It aims to significantly reduce the breeding cycle and increase genetic gain so that growers are well-equipped to handle new environmental, pest and disease challenges. This new, market-reactive process is achieved through the best technologies and proprietary traits in the world – accessed through various industry partners.
Pacific Seeds provides the marketing muscle. With its 50-year legacy in Australia, it ensures that LongReach varieties are readily available around the country. LongReach’s access to elite local and international germplasm and technology combined with a powerful national sales platform means that it has the capacity and expertise to offer Australian growers some of the best varieties in the world.
The Opportunity
The General Manager is responsible for overseeing day to day operations, ensuring strong financial performance, operational excellence and a culture of safety and compliance. The role oversees the development and execution of strategic objectives, manages senior staff, employee engagement and drives continuous improvement to meet shareholder expectations.
Key result areas include the development, implementation and review of the 5-year strategic plan; leading, developing and implementing the strategy for end point royalty (EPR) compliance on all LongReach varieties; setting and monitoring budget performance; and ensuring compliance with regulations and company policy.
Critical to the position is building external relationships with key stakeholders inclusive of seed associates, industry bodies and key grower organisations. This role also requires strong leadership, development and mentorship to all functional heads, managers and teams.
About You
We are seeking a strategic, people focused leader with the following key skills and attributes:
- 10 + years proven senior leadership or General Manager experience within Agriculture.
- Recognised people leadership qualities with exposure to leading in a multicultural environment.
- Strong commitment to health and safety for themselves as well as all team members.
- Teamwork focussed with proven ability to work in cross functional environments.
- High level communications, both verbal and written.
- Displays entrepreneurship and high levels of initiative and accountability.
- Self-motivated, committed, open minded with a strong commercial aptitude.
- Easy going, yet confident to deal with a wide range of stakeholders.
- Tertiary qualifications in Agriculture, business management or related.
- Open to travel extensively.
In addition, it would be ideal to have exposure to the grains industry and/or plant breeding with an understanding of the End Point Royalty value capture mechanism for open pollinated plant breeding in Australia.
