About This Opportunity

As Principal Specialty Supervisor (Psychiatry), you will play a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of clinicians by delivering high-quality, discipline-specific education within the Clinical Unit and across the broader Learning Community. Working closely with the Mayne Academy and the Academy for Medical Education, you will champion the integration of learning across all four years of the program, while fostering meaningful engagement with hospital and community care clinicians within the specialty.

In this highly visible role, you will bring both academic credibility and a proven track record in psychiatry to lead, mentor, and inspire. You will not only guide the educational experience of students and registrars but also support and oversee Specialty Supervisors and Educational Registrars, ensuring excellence in clinical education and strong connections between the University and the health system.

Key responsibilities will include:

* Teaching – Deliver specialty-specific leadership in psychiatry education, ensuring high-quality learning, supervision, feedback, and assessment across all years of the program, while supporting colleagues and contributing to curriculum innovation.

* Research – Maintain an active research profile through quality outputs, funding applications, and engagement with best-practice methodologies, including clinical research and the scholarship of teaching and learning.

* Supervision & Development – Provide effective leadership, mentoring, and performance development for Specialty Supervisors, Educational Registrars, and other staff, modelling excellence in professional conduct and research integrity.

* Citizenship & Service – Contribute to a respectful, inclusive learning and workplace culture, engage in professional development, support student career pathways, and play an active role in School, Faculty, and University initiatives and governance.


Organisational Relationships

This position reports to the Head, Ipswich Clinical Unit with functional oversight from the Head, Mayne Academy of Psychiatry.

About You

* Medical qualification and eligibility for registration in Australia, with recognised specialist accreditation (AHPRA).

* PhD or equivalent, or a combination of professional and academic achievements relevant to the field.

* Established profile in clinical teaching and/or clinical research, with a substantial record of contribution to high-quality education at undergraduate, postgraduate, or professional-entry level.

* Expert discipline knowledge with extensive clinical experience, including evidence of innovation and dissemination of new techniques.

* Strong research track record, including national publications, conference presentations, and success in securing and managing external funding, with a developing international profile.

* Experience in program and curriculum development, supervision of HDR students and/or specialty trainees, and meaningful service contributions with demonstrated professional leadership.

This position is a fixed term appointment with the University, working in collaboration with the Ipswich Hospital for the duration of the appointment. A Conjoint/Secondment arrangement with Queensland Health may be considered for a suitable applicant. A Conjoint/Secondment offer made to the suitable candidate will be a fixed-term appointment.

This position may attract additional salary loadings (clinical and/or state) within this role, based on the successful candidate's qualifications and registrations and subject to approval. More information can be found here

The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre-employment checks, including right to work in Australia, education check, AHPRA registration, mandatory immunisations.
