We are seeking an experienced EL1-equivalent Senior JavaScript, SQL & .NET Web Developer to join a Federal Government client in Canberra.
This is an excellent opportunity for a senior full stack developer to work on modern web applications that support data visualisation, reporting and decision-making, while contributing to both new capability development and the enhancement or migration of existing systems.
This role is Canberra-based and operates in a hybrid model, with a mix of onsite attendance and work from home. The first few weeks will be 100% on-site, until a work-from-home arrangement that balances on-site and home is agreed. You must be located within the Canberra region to perform this role, as on-site attendance is required each week.
About the role
You will play a key role in the design, development and support of web-based solutions in a structured federal government environment. The work will span a mix of greenfield and brownfield initiatives, with a focus on building secure, maintainable and scalable applications, integrating with data sources and existing services, and supporting the transition from legacy platforms into more modern delivery environments.
You will also work closely with technical and non-technical stakeholders, helping translate business requirements into practical development outcomes while supporting best practice software delivery in an agile, DevOps-oriented setting.
Key duties and responsibilities
* Develop and maintain full stack web applications focused on data visualisation, reporting and decision support
* Build and enhance front end and back end components using JavaScript/TypeScript, .NET/C# and SQL-based technologies
* Integrate applications with existing services, platforms and data sources
* Contribute to testing, release coordination and deployment activities
* Support the transition of services from legacy environments into modern platforms and delivery models
* Undertake technical analysis of existing systems and provide recommendations for migration and uplift
* Work closely with business analysts, product owners and senior stakeholders to define and deliver functional and non-functional requirements
* Provide guidance to internal and external delivery teams on integration, delivery approaches, architectural patterns and practical implementation options
* Contribute to secure, maintainable and reproducible development practices in a highly collaborative environment
* Assist with broader continuous improvement across software development, DevOps practices and engineering delivery
Essential criteria
To be considered, you will need to demonstrate:
* Minimum 5 years’ experience developing web applications across modern front end frameworks, with exposure to legacy frameworks such as Angular and strong capability in newer frameworks such as Vue, Svelte or React
* Minimum 5 years’ experience developing applications using JavaScript/TypeScript, C# (.NET) and Node.js
* Minimum 3 years’ experience working with relational databases such as SQL Server (preferred), Oracle or PostgreSQL, including strong SQL development capability, stored procedures and advanced queries
* Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across technical and non-technical stakeholders in a structured government environment
* Ability to take direction, work independently, and deliver high-quality outcomes in a hybrid team setting
* An active NV1 security clearance or higher is mandatory
Desirable criteria
Highly regarded experience includes:
* Previous experience working within Federal Government or other complex public sector environments
* Exposure to governance, compliance, security and privacy requirements in enterprise delivery settings
* Experience working with or providing direction to external consultancies or delivery partners
* Familiarity with technologies or environments such as:
o Python
o Kubernetes / Docker
o Analytics platforms
o OLAP or decision support systems
o Cloud infrastructure or AI/ML-related engineering
