SMBC is a major international bank with a leading position in the Global Financial Institutions, Loan Capital Markets / Syndications, Global Markets and Treasury, Corporate Banking, Project Finance, and Sponsored / Leverage Finance markets.
This position, working alongside the Deputy Head of GFIG, Australia, will handle onboarding and credit analysis for GFIG clients and transactions. Responsibilities include client identification (AML/KYC), credit application preparation, and administrative tasks related to credit and compliance.
You will support senior team members in developing relationships within SMBC, APAC branches, and external clients. The role also involves marketing SMBC’s products and services, including preparing pitch books.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist the Relationship Manager in managing existing client portfolios, including account plans, transaction documents, and timely execution.
Contribute to new business opportunities through client marketing, industry and company analysis, and financial market contacts.
Prepare credit applications for transaction approval from relevant Credit Departments.
Conduct detailed financial analysis of financial institutions and sectors, maintaining updated information.
Assist in developing credit policies for financial institutions and sectors in coverage countries.
Monitor market conditions, country risks, and credit risks of financial institutions, submitting reports as needed.
Handle administrative paperwork, including profit reporting and internal transaction documentation.
Review and finalize legal documents related to customer transactions, such as loan agreements and ISDAs.
Ensure compliance with SMBC, subsidiaries, and regulators, including AML and KYC obligations.
Promote cross-selling of bank products and services.
Qualifications:
Minimum 2 years relevant experience, preferably with an institutional or investment bank or financial institution, focusing on financial institutions.
Strong understanding of financial products, banking practices, and credit processes.
Ability to interpret financial statements, conduct financial modeling, and demonstrate numeracy skills.
Knowledge of Debt Capital Markets and derivatives products.
Effective presentation skills for internal and client communications.
Experience in stakeholder relationship development.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong interpersonal and influencing skills.
Attention to detail.
University degree in Commerce, Banking, or Finance.
