About the role
- The Families Worker is instrumental in adding value to Newcastle Worship & Community Centre and focusing on growing faith pathways with families from the local community and ministry programs.
- The role involves consultation with Corps Officers, Leadership Team, local networks, and external agencies to develop and provide equitable and efficient faith pathways and programs.
- These programs and activities should also provide local mission expressions with opportunities for evangelism, creation of faith pathways, and outreach and improve links to the community.
You will successfully
- Actively look for opportunities to create faith pathways with existing programs connecting with parents and focusing on the whole family
- Build relationships with families attending the corps & it's programs & provide supports / pastoral care
- Engage with children's programs connecting and growing relationships with families
- Coordinate / Oversee the existing Mainly Music program & work with the existing team to provide them encouragement & support
- Provide pastoral care to families attending the Mainly Music program with the intention of linking them to the corps
- Ensure that all policies & procedures are maintained, monitor budget, provide team building opportunities
- Consider / investigate viability of new programs for families / children / teens such as Kids in the Kitchen & Messy Church
- Establish a new families ministry by investigating the demographic / community, engaging with users of the building & ministries such as community services utilising a team of volunteers to assist
- Volunteers are recruited, trained and effectively engage
- Managing / coordination of volunteers - meeting all administration requirements, provision of training and support to volunteers, provision of pastoral care to foster a positive, cohesive and effective workplace culture of community activities.
- Build the team by holding team meetings & encourage parents & other interested / appropriate people to volunteer on the team
This is a part-time(15 hrs per week) fixed term(1 year from hire date) position located in Newcastle, NSW. Salary and conditions are in accordance with the Hays Level 10 award
You will have
- Certificate III or IV Community Services or Pastoral Care Diploma or similar (desirable)
- A commitment to the Christian faith and mission of The Salvation Army
- An ability to offer pastoral assistance, to offer prayer and to explain the Christian Gospel
- Leadership experience
- Experience in Children's Ministry
- Experience in volunteer management
- Member of The Salvation Army
- A national police record check is required
- A current and valid Working with Children Check or equivalent
- A current and valid Drivers Licence
- Willing to be flexible with work hours and days e.g. Sunday attendance and flexibility to attend special events as needed
