Are you passionate about empowering young people and deepening their faith? The Diocese is seeking an enthusiastic and dynamic Youth Ministry Team Leader to spearhead our youth formation and discipleship initiatives. This pivotal role is not just a job; it's a calling to inspire our youth to encounter Jesus Christ and actively participate in the Catholic Church.


About the role

Your mission? To cultivate a vibrant youth community that thrives on faith, fellowship, and service.

A Youth Ministry Team Leader plays a vital role in fostering the spiritual and personal development of young people within the Church. Working closely with the Diocesan Youth Director and the Youth Advisory Council, the appointee will oversee all youth ministry activities within the Diocese ensuring they meet the needs of young people while adhering to safeguarding principles and Church teachings.

The Team Leader will guide faith formation by creating and implementing programs, whilst leveraging technology, that enhance young people's understanding and practice of the Catholic faith, creating a cohesive and engaging environment for spiritual growth.

This leader promotes youth engagement by encouraging participation in parish activities and helping young individuals develop their leadership skills. Through the organisation of events and activities, they cultivate a supportive and connected community for young people.

Additionally, the Youth Ministry Team Leader provides pastoral support, offering guidance to youth navigating personal or spiritual challenges. They work collaboratively with families, parish staff, and community members to ensure that programs align with the broader goals of the parish and diocese.


Salary and Hours of Work

A remuneration package in the range of $78,000-$100,000 ($70,000-$90,000 plus superannuation) will be negotiated with the successful candidate based on their skills, experience and qualifications relevant to the role.

This is a permanent, full-time opportunity. The hours of work will be rostered based on a calendar of events and engagements for the Team Leader. This will include a combination of business hours plus regular evening and weekend work to engage with the youth and working groups.


Location

The Youth Ministry Team Leader will be located in Lismore, in the Northern Rivers region of the NSW North Coast. Lismore is a regional centre with vibrant farming, arts, education and health care communities. This role provides an opportunity to combine working for the mission of the Catholic Church with a lifestyle that embraces the surrounding natural scenery – outstanding beaches, rainforests, waterfalls and rail trails.

The Diocese of Lismore spans a geographical footprint from Laurieton (Port Macquarie area) in the South, Tweed Heads to the north, the Great Dividing Range to the west and an incredible 400km+ coastline forming our eastern border. The appointee will be immersed within the 22 parishes of the Diocese. Regular travel, including overnight stays, is an integral part of the Youth Ministry Team Leader role.

Relocation support is available to the appointee if relocating to the Lismore area. This is an on-site role with regular travel requirements between our parish communities.


Selection criteria

As a laity role, the Youth Ministry leader is responding to a calling of service to support the mission of the Catholic Church. The successful candidate will demonstrate a deep commitment to nurturing the spiritual and personal growth of young people.

An understanding of Catholic theology and doctrine and ability to integrate faith into youth programs and activities.

Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills to engage youth, parents, and church leaders.

Empathy, flexibility, and pastoral sensitivity to the needs of young people and the diversity of parishes in the diocese.

Preferred criteria:

Strong leadership abilities, with experience in managing teams.

Event planning and project management skills, with excellent attention to detail and ability to manage budgets.

Proficiency in digital platforms and social media to engage and connect with youth, including video content, editing, an understanding of analytics and social media algorithm to drive engagement on various social media platforms.
