Overview

This is a permanent part-time (0.95 FTE) position commencing Term 1, 2026. Cassia Primary School (PS) is situated on Kariyarra land in the Pilbara Region. The school fosters a love of learning through our motto of "Inspire, Believe, Achieve" and strives to help students reach their full potential.

Cassia PS recognises a diverse culture, with students from 14 language backgrounds. The school emphasises a caring, safe and inclusive environment and a strong sense of community supported by the School Board and Parents and Citizens Associations. The Aboriginal and Islander Education Officer (AIEO) plays a crucial role in fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment for Indigenous students. The AIEO collaborates with teachers, students and families to develop culturally relevant educational programs and to empower Indigenous students to reach their full potential.

The Role

The AIEO acts as a liaison between the school and the Indigenous community, mentors and provides pastoral care to Indigenous students, and supports teachers and students. The AIEO engages with the local Indigenous community to facilitate involvement in school policies and programs, conducts home visits to discuss student progress, and helps staff understand Indigenous culture and community needs.

Eligibility
To work with us, you must:

- be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or have a valid visa with relevant work rights for the term of the appointment.
- obtain a valid Working With Children Check before you start; and
- consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit before you start.

- Demonstrated good interpersonal skills for engaging with diverse audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to contribute to a school-level team and provide multicultural direction in developing educational programs, language resources, and evaluation of education and behavior management programs.
- Demonstrated ability to assist teachers in implementing educational and behavior management programs.
- Demonstrated strong organizational skills to support effective education delivery.
- Demonstrated ability to assist with the general health and well-being of students.
