About the Team
When you join the Finance team, you'll be joining the cornerstone of our operations, providing crucial guidance and governance to support ARTC's strategic objectives. The team is actively engaged in internal planning to enhance our strategic planning, risk management, and decision-making processes.

About the Opportunity
The Assistant Accountant will support the Finance Business Partnering team by assisting in the preparation and delivery of accurate management reports. This includes managing centralised accounting processes such as internal plant charging, motor vehicle cost allocations, and capitalisation preparation, along with producing relevant supporting journals and reports. The role will be instrumental in processing financial transactions, contributing to month-end reporting, forecasting and supporting broader financial analysis and ad hoc projects as required.
* Provide timely and accurate General Ledger (GL) journals related to centralised accounting processes, i.e. plant distributions, accruals and review revenue and recovery allocations.
* Undertake stockpiled ballast and grinding stones inventory issuing and reconciliations.
* Prepare balance sheet reconciliations, maintain supporting working papers and investigate and resolve discrepancies as required.
* Calculate and process monthly journals, including motor vehicle costs, prepayments and other bookings.
* Perform analytical reviews to assist in the preparation of management reporting and providing commentary.
* Assist with review and update of relevant work instructions and procedures to ensure adherence to all internal controls and procedures.
* Support government and third-party funding reporting and claims.
* Regular review and preparation of cost adjustments, disposals, capitalisation and notifying at risk write offs.
* Accurately prepare monthly and quarterly business reports as allocated.
* Build good, effective and efficient communication and relationships within Finance and throughout the business.
* Undertake various projects, process improvements and other tasks as requested and agreed.
* Ensure compliance with ARTC's Safety Management System (SMS) and Environmental Management System (EMS) requirements, responsibilities, authorities and accountabilities.
What do we want from you?
To ensure success in this position, applicants will be able to demonstrate:
* Tertiary qualifications in an accounting or business-related discipline.
* Strong attention to detail and demonstrated analytical review capabilities.
* Competent written and verbal communication skills, with strong interpersonal and negotiation abilities.
* Proven experience in month end accounting and proficient use of Microsoft Excel, Power BI, in a similar role or a role that encompasses these areas within a commercial organisation, if qualified by experience.
* Experience in operating accounting software packages, if qualified by experience.
* On site requirement.
* Looking to pursue or currently working towards professional accounting qualification (CPA or CA) (Desirable).
* Experience with TechnologyOne accounting system (Desirable).
