The Role

Child and Family Health Nurses and Midwives are Registered Nurses and Midwives who have completed additional post graduate qualifications in primary health care to enable them to work within a primary health care model aimed at providing children aged 0-5 years with a comprehensive service, incorporating evidence based practice and cultural sensitivities, while aligning with current policies. This involves undertaking physical, emotional and psychosocial assessments to identify family's strengths and vulnerabilities to enable early identification and appropriate interventions.
The service delivery is provided in the Child and Family Health Clinics, Central intake, Family Care Cottages, and in the home setting. The Service also works in partnership with specialised programs to support vulnerable families with Sustaining NSW Families (SNF), Building Strong Foundation Service (BSF), and the Parent Support Team.

Selection Criteria:
1. Current registration as a Registered Nurse and/or Midwife with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency AHPRA.
2. Specific postgraduate qualification in Child and Family Health or near completion.
3. Demonstrated ability to work in partnership with families within a primary health care setting.
4. Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication, interpersonal skills and the ability to identify key messages, issues and concerns when communicating with others.
5. Demonstrated understanding of breast feeding and lactation.
6. Basic computer skills and proven ability to use health information systems.
7. Detailed knowledge and understanding of risk management, safety and quality principles and the role of the Registered Nurse/Midwife in applying these principles.
8. Current unrestricted driver's licence.
