Job Description
We're seeking a Laboratory Supervisor to lead our dedicated team at Muswellbrook, supporting the Hunter Valley Operations Manager in delivering high-quality, timely laboratory services to our valued clients. This key role involves providing hands-on leadership and guidance to ensure accurate sampling, analysis, and reporting—meeting client expectations and upholding our commitment to excellence. This is a six-month fixed-term contract.
Your key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
* Demonstrate effective use of risk management tools at the Muswellbrook branch.
* Monitor the team and promptly intervene when the team is not working at an acceptable level of risk, and rectify issues.
* Lead, direct, and monitor daily activities of the laboratory work conducted by the Muswellbrook Branch.
* Coordinate the workload of the Laboratory area through the Muswellbrook Branch, involving other branches as required.
* Lead and direct team members to work collaboratively towards common goals.
* Proactively utilize SGS training resources.
* Develop new team members into functioning team members and seek to utilize their potential.
* Provide coaching and mentoring in best practice coal preparation and testing processes, as well as in personal growth and life skills development.
* Assist with recruiting for the Laboratory and onboarding new staff.
* Promote attainment of Client KPIs within the Muswellbrook branch.
* Assist with ad-hoc projects and perform other duties as required by SGS management.
Qualifications
* Working knowledge of Sampling, Preparation, Analysis, Validation, and Reporting.
* Experience with administrative tasks.
* Moderate proficiency in Microsoft Office.
* Proven time management skills, capable of handling tight deadlines.
* Minimum 5 years' experience in Coal Laboratories.
* Computer skills in Word, Excel, and CCLAS.
