4 days ago Be among the first 25 applicants Expression of Interest – Recruited Director (Education, Policy, Research) Homeland School Company Board of Directors The Homeland School Company is seeking Expressions of Interest from suitably qualified individuals to join our Board of Directors as a Recruited Director with expertise in education/policy/research. About Us The Homeland School Company was established in 2023 to address the long-term educational neglect of children living across the homelands of the Djelk Indigenous Protected Area (IPA) in west Arnhem Land, Northern Territory. The Company is currently in the process of registering three independent, bi-cultural schools at Gamardi, Buluh Kaduru and Gochan Jiny Jirra. Across the IPA’s 6,700 square kilometres are more than 102 clan estates and over 4,000 residents, served by a single full-time public school. HSC’s work is about strengthening equitable, place-based education on country so every child can learn where they live. We are supported by respected partners including Bawinanga Homelands Aboriginal Corporation, the Karrkad Kanjdji Trust, and the Nawarddeken Academy. The Role To strengthen our governance and ensure the Company is positioned for sustainable growth, we are seeking a Recruited Director (Education/Policy/Research) to provide high-level educational expertise and strategic advice to the Board. Experience in remote Aboriginal schools, including governance and compliance Strong knowledge of education policy and curriculum delivery Demonstrated work with Traditional Owners in remote settings, including co-design and community capacity building Applied research/evaluation experience (e.g. action research, M&E;) with First Nations ethical practice and data sovereignty Ability to turn evidence into practice and provide clear, board-ready advice; commitment to HSC’s educational and cultural objectives Experience in bi-cultural or community-led schooling models Familiarity with the Independent Schools sector and Northern Territory education systems Strong networks across education, government and peak bodies Experience in school leadership, policy development and accreditation; and/or research partnerships supporting shared measurement Commitment This is a paid position. Board Directors commit to quarterly board meetings either online or in person, with expenses covered.
