Adventure leader | Performance coach | Train with purpose | Trek with confidence | Climb high
About Us
At Mountain Tribe, we don't just run treks - we create transformational experiences. Based in Melbourne, we specialise in premium alpine adventures across Australia and the Himalayas. Our trips are physically demanding, mentally expansive, and meticulously designed to push people beyond their comfort zones.
We're not a tourism company. We're a human performance tribe. Our participants are business professionals and high-achievers who train together for 2 to 12 months before stepping into the mountains with us. We guide them not just across landscapes, but through personal thresholds - fostering resilience, community, and growth in the raw, wild beauty of the natural world. If you're passionate about connecting people with nature, coaching others to unlock their potential, and building lifelong bonds through hard-earned experiences, you might be a perfect fit.
The Role
We're on the hunt for exceptional humans to join our Guide Trainee Program - a 9-15 month pathway to becoming a lead guide with Mountain Tribe. This is not a typical guiding gig. You'll be trained across numerous disciplines: outdoor leadership, strength & conditioning, human movement, prehab/rehab, physical training for alpinism, nutrition for high-performance trekking, wilderness first aid, and alpine guiding.
In this role, you'll begin by supporting our experienced coaches and guides, gradually taking on more responsibility as your skills develop. You'll help facilitate training hikes and alpine mountain training weekends, support build-up training logistics, engage with participants both online and in person, and eventually help guide treks and climbing expeditions in both Australia and the Himalayas.
We'll provide significant in-house and external training - including fitness certifications, alpine skills courses, and specialised coaching development. In return, we're looking for people with strong leadership potential, a passion for the outdoors, and the capacity to grow into a strong trustworthy guide who inspires others.
Skills & Experience
Successful applicants will have a background in health & fitness, outdoor education and/or guiding. The following skills and qualifications will support your application:
·Experience guiding hikes and treks
·Certificate III & IV in Fitness
·Wilderness First Aid
·Outdoor Education qualifications (degree or other)
·Positive attitude, strong communication skills, and resilience in high-pressure environments
Applicants must by at least 21 years of age and hold a full Australian drivers licence that they have had for at least one year.
·Work that matters: Help people break through personal limits, develop new skills and come back from the mountains stronger, more grounded, and more alive.
·High-end training: Access to a structured development pathway with coaching in strength & conditioning, high altitude trekking, specialised first aid, mountaineering, nutrition, and human performance.
·Epic locations: Work across Australia's alpine regions and in the Nepalese Himalayas, with scope to venture into other regions as Mountain Tribe grows.
·Competitive Remuneration & Benefits: Assistant guide daily rates from $350-$450, plus travel allowance, clothing & equipment allowance, high quality accommodation, food and travel costs all provided.
·Grow into a lead guide: This program is designed to take you from trainee to trusted expedition leader, with the skills, confidence and credibility to match.
