Our client is a highly regarded boutique investment manager seeking to appoint a Senior Investment Analyst or Portfolio Manager to its Melbourne based team. The successful candidate will join a high-conviction investment environment focused on Australian small-cap equities, where stock selection, research depth and idea generation directly influence portfolio outcomes.
The successful candidate will source and research differentiated investment ideas across the Australian small-cap universe, conducting detailed fundamental company and industry analysis while building and maintaining robust financial models incorporating valuation techniques such as DCF, comparables and scenario testing. You will idea originate by participate in company meetings, site visits and earnings calls, preparing clear and insightful investment memos and presentations to support investment committee discussions. The role also involves monitoring portfolio holdings, catalysts and earnings revisions as new information emerges, with the opportunity depending on experience to manage a segment of the portfolio with direct accountability for risk and return. We are seeking a self-motivated and hungry for the opportunity, street smart stock picker who is genuinely passionate about Australian small caps and can demonstrate a track record of generating high-conviction investment ideas.
This role may suit candidates at varied levels of experience depending on capability and individual strengths. We encourage applications from those with a relevant background in buy-side investing alongside demonstrated passion for fundamental bottom-up small-cap investing.
Ideal background and skills:
* Bachelor's degree or above in Business / Commerce / Accounting / Finance
* 6+ years' experience in buy-side investing
* Strong financial modelling and valuation capability; high curiosity for markets and small-cap business models
* Ability to generate independent, high-conviction investment insights
* Progress toward CFA designation viewed favourably (not essential)
* Proactive problem-solver who thrives in a small, high-performance team
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with colleagues, company management and investors
* Ability to articulate complex investment ideas clearly, succinctly and persuasively
