About the role

The Canteen Manager is responsible for:

* Managing the day-to-day operations of the school canteen, including food preparation, service, and hygiene compliance.
* Developing and maintaining menus that reflect cultural inclusivity, healthy eating guidelines and support student wellbeing.
* Ordering, receiving, and maintaining stock supplies within budgetary constraints.
* Ensuring all Food Safety, Allergen Management, and OHS requirements are met and documented.
* Managing cash handling, EFTPOS reconciliation, and online ordering platforms
* Coordinating and supervising canteen volunteers or casual staff, ensuring safe and effective operations.
* Maintaining accurate financial and administrative records as required.
* Liaising with the Business Manager regarding budgets, purchasing, and operational planning.
* Supporting whole-school events that require catering or hospitality support.
* Upholding the school's Child Safety and Wellbeing policies and practices.
* Other duties as directed by the Principal or Business Managers

Selection Criteria

Your application for this position must specifically address each of the selection criteria below:

1. Demonstrated experience in food service operations and stock management

Proven ability to plan, prepare, and deliver a range of healthy food options in line with the Victorian Healthy Canteen Policy. Demonstrated experience in ordering, stock rotation, and cost management to ensure efficiency and sustainability.
2. Knowledge of and ability to implement health, safety, and hygiene regulations

Sound understanding of Food Safety Standards, Allergen Management, and Occupational Health and Safety requirements within a school or hospitality environment. Ability to maintain accurate compliance documentation.
3. Strong organisational and administrative skills

Demonstrated capacity to manage canteen operations, including menu planning, cash handling, online ordering, and record keeping. Proven ability to work independently, prioritise workloads, and meet deadlines.
4. Effective communication and interpersonal skills

Excellent interpersonal skills to engage positively with students, staff, parents, and volunteers. Ability to promote a welcoming and inclusive environment reflective of school values.
5. Ability to supervise and coordinate volunteers or support staff

Experience in coordinating a small team, providing direction, and ensuring compliance with workplace procedures. Demonstrated capacity to promote teamwork and safety.

About you

* You must hold a valid working with children's check (employee version)
* Current Food Handlers certificate
* Barista experience is highly desirable
* Relevant experience in Hospitality/Canteen operations is required
